I was surprised by the challenging work we’ve been given, and it’s been interesting. The chemistry professors make their lectures stimulating and accessible. It’s much more in-depth than what I had in high school.” Eunice Park (Santa Monica) “It’s really invigorating to work with the SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) and the AFM (Atomic Force Microscope), and all the equipment we’ve read about in textbooks but never actually get to see or use. I never thought I’d get to use this type of equipment and it opens up new possibilities.” Linda Chen (San Jose)Science Fair Initiative: Science Fair Initiative in collaboration with Dr. Debra Mauzy-Melitz Lab tours for Minority Program Science Fair poster winners Ho Labs Potma LabsScience Fair Project: Science Fair Project Effects of UV radiation on plant pigments by Daniel Shane, University High School Potma LabsAsk a Scientist: Ask a Scientist in collaboration with Dr. Debra Mauzy-Melitz at Costa Mesa High School (11/21/05 and 02/15/07)Undergraduate Training: Undergraduate Training UROP Program Kenny MayoralGraduate/Undergraduate Courses: Graduate/Undergraduate Courses 1) Freshman Seminar Series “Nanotechnology - Past, Present, Future” Collins (Fall 05) 2) Graduate Courses “Chemistry at the Space-Time Limit” Ho, Apkarian, Collins, Mukamel, Potma, Ge, Mills (Spring 07) “Chemistry in the Making” Apkarian (Fall 06) “A Different Light on Light” Potma (Fall 06) ChaMP, ISIS: UCI has a unique graduate student pool trained in the interfacial field of chemistry and physicsConcluding: Concluding Drawing students to Physical Chemistry through exposure to latest scientific insights and state-of-the-art instrumentation …. it works!
