Simple Home Network ADSL line ADSL Modem The ADSL modem usually connects to the PC through a USB port. It also may be powered over the USB port. Needs a firewall on the PC

Simple Home Network ADSL line Router/Firewall/Modem – Netgear DG834 The ADSL Router connects to the PC through a network card and RJ45 patch cable. It usually needs its own power supply. Firewall could be in the Router

Hardware Configuration: 

Hardware Configuration Install network cards in each PC. Load drivers as required. Connect each network card to the Router with a RJ45 patch cable Install ADSL filters on each telephone point with a piece of telephone equipment connected Connect Router to the telephone line with a RJ11 cable YOU ARE NOW READY TO CONFIGURE THE PC & ROUTER Connect power to the Router

Software Configuration: 

Software Configuration Configure IP addresses on PC (More later) Power off & on the Router Set Browser Options to never dial a connection Clear any proxy server settings in browser Open browser and go to address 192.168.0.1 Set up the Router using Auto Detect Settings If required, add any tailored configurations to Router Reset any email packages to use LAN rather than dial up YOU’RE DONE
