FUNCTIONAL HOCKEY MIDGET TRAINING CAMP The Functional Hockey Philosophy The goal of this program is to develop each player through practice and game competition with athletes of the same experience and commitment levels. Functional training for ice hockey centers around skill development in a high-tempo environment emphasizing puck control and puck movement. The ability to develop and apply this 'hockey sense' within the context of a game is the core ingredient to becoming a truly successful hockey player. This camp is designed using a high-tempo, high-flow philosophy. Continuous transition, neutral zone regroup and fore-checking drills teach players to execute offensive and defensive skills at a game-like pace, thereby developing a hockey-specific training effect. High-flow drills create game-like responses, ensure maximum player participation and create a higher quality and quantity of repetitions for optimal skill development. Instruction stresses both technical and tactical skills. Technical development sessions focus on improving game fundamentals -- skating, passing, shooting, puck handling -- using our unique drill philosophy. Tactical development sessions teach the concepts of width, gap control, read-and-react skills, time-and-space concepts and defensive group tactics.
