Using CPS IR pads and the Student Managed Asssessment( SMA)Mode

What is CPS? :

Student Managed Assessments : 

Student Managed Assessments A student managed assessment is where the students have a paper copy of the test on his or her desk. The answers are submitted with the CPS system. This method of delivery allows students to work on at their own pace. These slides show version 6.0 of the CPS software. This software will work with either the Blue( original ) or current CPS IR pads. The latest verison is 6.5 and is free to any CPS users at www.eInstruction.com

Steps for using a student managed assessment 1. Click the Prepare tab and then Classes & Students. Next, click the green + New button and Class. Give the Lesson a Name (Example: Quarterly 3) and click OK.

Steps for using a student managed assessment 2. Click the Prepare tab and then Classes & Students. Next, click the green + New button and Lesson. You will need to give a Class Name (Example: Math-Lepine) and click OK. By entering the answers ahead of time, CPS will score the assessment for you.

Steps for using a student managed assessment 3. For question one, go to the window that has the correct question format (N/Y, T/F, A/B, A/B/C, etc) and click the correct answer. You will see the current question window change to reflect you are now on question 2. Repeat this process until you have entered all of the answers. Click OK at the bottom of the window.

Steps for using a student managed assessment 4. You will see your Fast Grade lesson added to your assessments on the Prepare tab and the Engage tab. Check the box that is before the lesson that you want to use.

Steps for using a student managed assessment 5. Click Assessment Setup from the blue toolbar on the center of the page. Choose Student Paced and click Engage: Assessment.

Steps for using a student managed assessment A screen will appear showing the student pad numbers in the blue fields and the question they are currently working on in the yellow fields. As the students work through the problems, the question number will change under their pad number.

Student numbers change colors to give feedback as to the Status of an answer as it is input. Teachers can observe the colors to see if students are still working or having problems.

Steps for using a student managed assessment 6. When the student has finished the assessment, the fields will remain solid blue to show they are done. When everyone has finished, click Done.

Steps for using a student managed assessment 7. You can now go to the “Report” tab to see how the students responded. Click on “Charting” to see how the class responded as a whole class. Also on the “Reports” tab, you can click “Generate” to access the following reports: Instructor’s summary: shows individual student’s score Question report: shows how a selected student(s) responded on each question Question analysis: shows the class responses to each question

The purpose of this Powerpoint was to discuss using SMA ( Student Managed Assessment) with the CPS IR Pads The CPS Pulse RF pads CAN certainly be used for SMA. In fact, students will be prompted on the LCD screen that the pad is in SMA mode. Questions are created the same way for either pad. The difference is that students with RF pads will see a question # on the pad Rather than a projected screen.
