The standard aims to finally provide two components: an API for application developers and a device layer for VR or AR hardware which represents an abstraction interface with the device itself. The preliminary 0.90 version contained an API whereby the device layer is planned as a plugin interface for post 1.0 versions. Timetable. In March 2017 the Khronos Group provisionally planned to release the first version of the API by the end of 2018. The API was released as a preliminary version in March 2019 with a plug-in device interface planned for versions after 1.0. Thank you for your visit.
