Some Thoughts on Teaching: Some Thoughts on Teaching Dr. Ted Moon Morrison Academy Taichung, Taiwan

Writing: Writing Authors of books/textbooks

Slide3: Dear Mrs. Johnson, I am a normal six grade student studying at Morrison Christian Academy in Taiwan. Our teacher, Dr. Moon, assigned our class to read a historical fiction book and write a letter to the author of the book so I chose a book about my ancestors, (Raiders of the Sea). I’m Danish, my dad is Danish and my mom is Norwegian and my parents are missionaries here in Taiwan... …Thank you so much for spending time on all of your book so that other people can enjoy reading it as well. And thank you again for such a well written exciting, book that certainly took a lot of research. So thank you. A fan, Christoffer Fryd

Slide4: Hi Christoffer,   What fun to hear from you!  I'm delighted to know that you like Raiders from the Sea.  Thank you for telling me that you especially enjoyed Bree's courage and that you compared it to what happened to Abraham.  I'm glad that you liked the ending… ... I'm delighted that your parents are missionaries there. Again, thank you for writing and for respecting the research that I've done.  Yes, it was a lot of hard work, and I traveled to Norway, Northern Ireland, and the Republic of Ireland.  But I'm grateful that God led me to do so, for it helped me tremendously to be able to see the settings of the story. May the Lord bless you, your life and family, and your walk in Jesus -- Lois Walfrid Johnson (Author of Raiders from the Sea)

Slide5: Dear Dr. White The character I like is Gaal He is kind, courageous and omnipotent. Gaal gives the children courage and strength to fight the sadist, Hocino. The children go through lots of trouble, but Gaal helps them in need. He is like Jesus in the Bible. When Kurt and Inkleth betrayed him, he was not angry but forgave them and helped them to turn good. The chapter that I really enjoyed was about the great battle on the heights of Rinnar. That battle was intense and very detailed. The assault on the hill top was incredible; the trepidation of Kardia and his commanders was understandable. The duel between the sinister lady Sheruth and the judicious Wesley was fantastic... Your Grateful Readers, Daniel Hsu Joseph Keller Bendrick Wang

Slide7: Galilee Gazette “Terrorist Attacks Continued” Capernaum (JWN) Last night on the way to Capernaum, Roman soldiers were maliciously attacked. The centurion leading his legionnaires were pulling a catapult when one of its wheels broke. The centurion took all but two of his men into town secure help. Since it was late in the day, they decided to fix the wheel in the morning. What a surprise awaited them! Not only were the soldiers guarding the catapult tied up, but the ENTIRE catapult had disappeared into thin air.

Slide9: April 5, 2005 Dear Mark Muller, Hi! My name is I-Ta, and I am from Dr. Moon’s 6th grade class. When we knew that you and your mission trip group were going to Kenya, I was so glad. I thought, “There is someone going from our school who can teach the world more about Jesus.” Dr. Moon reminded us that even though we couldn’t go our prayers could go. Everyone in my class got to pray for one person in the trip, and lucky me, I got you. I’m happy that the Lord God answered our prayer for your safety and health. Well, no one got sick and no one got in trouble with the tribes! Oh yeah, I nearly forgot, how was the weather over there? Because I prayed that you would have good weather. I’m just happy that you are all safely back and hope that the people had open hearts to hear you. Please take the money that we gave for the mission trip as a special, humble gift. Sincerely, I-Ta Lu (Chips)

Writing: Writing Authors of books/textbooks Create newspaper To students going on special events What I Have Learned

Slide11: Lessons from Daniel By Paulili Being in bad places doesn’t mean you cant serve the Lord. When God’s with you not even fire can touch you. Don’t be arrogant like Nebuchadnezzar. Honor God and He will honor you. God is patient. He gave Nebuchadnezzar one year to repent but he didn’t.

Slide13: Dear Mrs. Turner, Something I’ve learned is that I should examine my life. You have also taught me the importance of self-control. I need to have self-control and you showed me how to ask God to help. Me. Your talk helped me know that I should be more careful about boys and always have limits. Thanks for reminding me of all these things. If it weren’t for this reminder, I may have done many wrong things. May God bless you and thank you again. Blessings, Christina

Writing: Writing Authors of Books/Textbooks Create newspaper To students going on special events What I Have Learned Writing to special speakers Christmas letter to parents

Slide15: Christmas Letter Dear Mom and Dad, For this year’s Christmas, I want to thank you both for raising me. I know it has been difficult. I will try to listen, learn and obey more. I feel so lucky that both of you are my parents because you are always praying for me. Sometimes I am so bad that you punish me. I love you because I know you want me to grow up to love God. I also want to thank you for letting me have some things and make sure I don’t have things that I shouldn't have. Remember one time I begged both of you for a Game Boy. You didn’t get one for me. I think you were right for not letting me have it. If I had a Game Boy, I would probably waste a lot of time that I should use to study and learn. Thank you, Mom and Dad. Your grateful son,

Slide16: Dear Ms. Rabon, We know that prayers really help. Thank you for praying for every single one of us and changing our lives through those prayers. We believe that God really answers prayers. The Lord has answered lots of prayers and these are some that He has answered. A speaker named Joy Kelly came to our school and when she spoke to our class, she told us that she had a sore throat, so we prayed for her. After she spoke to us, she told us that she felt that her throat, instead of getting worse, was feeling a lot better. We believe that God touched her and healed her miraculously. Another time, we were praying for a teacher. She was going to the hospital for surgery because the doctors had found a tumor in her that had to be taken out. We prayed for her and when she went in for the surgery, the doctor couldn’t find the tumor. We believe that God took it out of her and answered our prayer. Thank you again for spending your time to pray for us. We feel absolutely blessed to know that some one is asking God to help us. May God bless you as well. Sincerely, Tiger Lai

Slide20: “Richard Cory” by Simon and Garfunkel They say that Richard Cory owns one half of this whole town, With political connections to spread his wealth around. Born into society, a banker's only child, He had everything a man could want: power, grace, and style. (Chorus) But I work in his factory / And I curse the life I'm living And I curse my poverty / And I wish that I could be, Oh, I wish that I could be, / Oh, I wish that I could be Richard Cory. The papers print his picture almost everywhere he goes: Richard Cory at the opera, Richard Cory at a show. And the rumor of his parties and the orgies on his yacht! Oh, he surely must be happy with everything he's got. (Chorus) He freely gave to charity, he had the common touch, And they were grateful for his patronage and thanked him very much, So my mind was filled with wonder when the evening headlines read: "Richard Cory went home last night and put a bullet through his head." (Chorus)

Slide21: “Money, Money, Money” by Abba I work all night, I work all day, to pay the bills I have to pay Ain't it sad And still there never seems to be a single penny left for me That's too bad In my dreams I have a plan If I got me a wealthy man I wouldn't have to work at all, I'd fool around and have a ball... Money, money, money Must be funny In the rich man's world Money, money, money Always sunny In the rich man's world Aha-ahaaa All the things I could do If I had a little money It's a rich man's world A man like that is hard to find but I can't get him off my mind Ain't it sad And if he happens to be free I bet he wouldn't fancy me That's too bad So I must leave, I'll have to go To Las Vegas or Monaco And win a fortune in a game, my life will never be the same...

Slide24: (Topic sentence) Since God is always communicating, I believe He would have much to say to this woman about money. First, I believe God would tell her that she is more valuable than diamonds or rubies. (Scripture reference). Second, He would tell her that a person’s life does not consist in the abundance of things (Luke 12:15)

Slide35: I Was Blind By Joanne Lin Voice: Elementary MCA-AP Well, I wasn’t exactly blind, I was trying to feel how life would be if I was blind. In order to do that, I was blindfolded (have my eyes covered with something so I can’t see) by another one of my classmates. When I was blindfolded I was tempted (try to do something I shouldn’t) many times to take the cloth blindfolding me off so I could see. With my eyes blindfolded I was scared to go anywhere. I was afraid I’d trip over something or bump into something. It wasn’t easy being blind. I got so scared that the first step I was about to take I sat down on the floor and didn’t dare (be brave enough to do something) to move.

Slide36: Handicap Times Interview with Janek Mandelbaum By Joshua Chen 6th Grade Audiences Voice: Middle Schoolers Interviewer: Hello, everyone! Today I will interview Janek Mandelbaum who has survived the Nazi concentration camps. These concentration camps were made for the Jews to stay in. But many other innocent people also stayed in those camps made by the Germans. We are lucky to have Janek here to interview. So, Janek, what do you think you despised (hated) most in the concentration camps? Janek: You can call me Jack. I never hated anything, because hate takes away strength, and in those concentration camps you needed all the strength you could get!

Slide52: Sixth Grad charity reveals heart for missions by Gabe Homer, staff reporter It is hard for any Morrison student to fathom the daily afflictions, pangs of hunger and desolation faced by the seven-year-old girl whose picture is pasted across the Morrison campus. Asres Aynalem is an orphaned Ethiopian who cannot go to school yet, as she runs errands for her brother and sister. The sixth grade class has decided to sell T-shirts in an two-fold effort to help support Asres and, at the same time, help send Morrison’s missions team to the Philippines. “The spirit behind this project is how we can help others,” explained sixth-grade teacher Dr. Ted Moon, noting that, since the class couldn’t go themselves, they decided to help send others to spread the gospel. When asked about the project, sixth-grade class president Joseph Keller replied, “I think it’s good to help the high school and Asres. We would be helping other people in the world, which is what we should be doing as much as possible.” The T-shirts, which are selling for NT$150, have Robert Morrison’s picture on the front and come With a one-page biography of the man Morrison Academy is named after. The biography was a cooperative effort by sixth grader Grace Seo and Dr. Moon. Order forms for the shirts can be found in the high school library. The sixth-grade class chose Robert Morrison for his connection to the school and because of his heart for missions. The class has also recently finished studying the life of Robert Morrison, a pioneer missionary to China.
