Slide1: The Rock Cycle Magma or Lava Igneous Sediments Sedimentary Metamorphic
Labeling Your Rock Cycle: Labeling Your Rock Cycle Color the boxes as indicated below:
Magma or lava = blue
Igneous = red
Sediments – brown
Sedimentary – orange
Metamorphic – green
Add an arrow to indicate each of the following:
Red arrow from magma or lava to igneous rocks.
Brown arrow from igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary to sediments.
Orange arrow from sediments to sedimentary.
Green arrow from igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic to metamorphic.
Blue arrow from igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic to magma or lava.
Label each arrow as indicated below:
Red arrow = cooling/crystallization/solidification
Brown arrow = erosion and deposition
Orange arrow = compaction and cementation
Green arrow = heat/pressure/chemical action
Blue arrow = melting
In the boxes, list the following examples of each rock type:
Igneous = basalt, gabbro, obsidian, granite, pumice, rhyolite
Sedimentary = coal, limestone, shale, sandstone, breccia, conglomerate
Metamorphic = slate, schist, gniess, quartzite, marble
