Why is WATER the recurring theme of H2O? : Why is WATER the recurring theme of H2O? Break the vicious cycle of poverty in third world countries by providing the simplest, purest, most basic necessity: clean water. Our vision is that the water we help to provide will not only quench immediate thirst, but give a hope for a better future. Aside from the scientific molecular definition of 2 hydrogen and 1 oxygen …

Why Ethiopia?: Why Ethiopia? Ethiopia, a country with a great need for our help and burdened with widespread drought, disease, and poverty. Only 24% of Ethiopians have access to clean water sources, compared to 100% here in Canada. Because the springs are maintained by locals, this water-system lasts indefinitely, making them a practical investment.

Vision of HOPE and H2O: Vision of HOPE and H2O To give locals the basic needs to allow them to take ownership & to hold them accountable. This in turn empowers with the guidance to take charge from there to change their future. individual  family  community Economy” “Essentials, Education, Ethiopia!

What is Spring Capping and what does it do?: What is Spring Capping and what does it do? This works by digging into the source of the spring and isolating the spring water from surface contaminants. From the source of the spring, pipes are directed to a reservoir high above the community. From this reservoir, a regular flow of pure spring water is supplied to central watering points in the village, while an overflow is redirected to animal troughs. Note that spring cappings work best in the highlands of Ethiopia, where gravity allows the spring water to naturally flow down to the village

Construction of Spring Capping: Construction of Spring Capping Trenches are dug, and pipes are laid, bringing the water down to a village watering point.

Slide16: Construction of Spring Capping Much of the work is done by the local people.

The Job-Site: The Job-Site HOPE crews live in tents near the spring while they work on it Crew consists of: water Hydrologist , 3 masons, a cook, a driver, and 2 hygiene & nutrition trainers (all staff are from Ethiopia!) work with 2 vehicles, a dump truck to transport pipe, cement, and sand, and a Landcruiser to transport the crew

Washing in an Animal Trough: Washing in an Animal Trough

Watering Point: Watering Point A wash-basin is included for many of the springs. It is set up near the watering-point in the village.

Watering Point: Watering Point Watering Points double as SHOWERS (at least for the younger ones). This is the watering point at Jemberte Spring. Mr. Esayas Gello, local director of the Mekane Yesus Church development department said: “I think that HOPE has done the best work among the Non-government organizations that I know who are providing clean water to communities.” The church has done much of the health training once a spring-cap and water system has been completed.

How do our efforts make a difference?: How do our efforts make a difference? Ethiopia was once a prosperous nation, but it has been devastated by over a century of drought. Such drought has crippled the economy of this nation, with 80% of the workforce employed in the agricultural sector For example, HOPE's spring capping project in Bolé, Ethiopia provided 24,000 liters a day to 5,000 people. This system cost $100,000 to install, and provided employment for many of the locals

What is HOPE International doing now?: What is HOPE International doing now? When HOPE decided to become involved in Ethiopia, this region possesed the greatest need for help with only 8% access to clean water 1985 – 8% access to clean water 2006 – 65% access to clean water 2015 – 90-100% access to clean water (projected) With HOPE's help, a precedent will be set for Ethiopia as this will be the only region to have full access to pure, clean water.

Getting Involved as a Sponsor: Getting Involved as a Sponsor By sponsoring a table for $500, you can invite 9 other guests to join you at our dinner! This triples our original amount! Because of your generosity, your guests will also have the opportunity to be generous, and in turn will be able to offer hope to those in need
