New York Center for Community and Coalition Building: Vision Statement The Mission of The New York Center for Community and Coalition Building  is to enable and assist the creation and growth of community-based initiatives and leadership training designed to meet the complex challenges of New York's New Diversity

The Community We Serve : 

The Community We Serve The more than 180 ethnic, religious and language groups living in NY metro area and who are no longer the minority, but the emerging majorities The eight southern counties of New York State The full diversity of the communities comprising this catchment area

The New York Center for Community and Coalition Building: 

The New York Center for Community and Coalition Building Under the guidance of the JCRC, the New York Center for Community and Coalition Building is designed to: Empower the communal leadership of the diverse communities comprising New York City Inform and train policy and decision makers in the public and private sectors to effectively respond to the complex needs of a growing and increasingly heterogeneous population Improve relations in communities between long-time residents and newcomers Mentor, Monitor, Teach and Provide start up funds for new community based coalitions.

JCRC used this commonality as entrance into community based coalition building. Project Case Study: Project C.A.R.E. Crown Heights: Coming Full Circle Project C.A.R.E.- A Coalition of African American, Caribbean American and Hassidic Jewish Leadership representing Crown Heights Founded in 1999 to in order to better the quality of life for all in Crown Heights Conducts programs on Youth, Education, Crime Reduction, Census and other issues that confront this diverse community Organized the community-wide 10th commemoration of the 1991 disturbances, Crown Heights the Future is Now at the Brooklyn Museum of Art. Convenes community leadership as a common voice in times of crisis

Project Case Study: The Greater Southern Brooklyn Health Coalition: 

Project Case Study: The Greater Southern Brooklyn Health Coalition Objective Replicate success of previous community health coalitions in evolving demographics of Southern Brooklyn. Actions Convened representatives from 90 community organizations, all major health care providers and HMOs in several conferences and public forums including the highly successful DIRECT FROM DC, with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Results Today The GSBHC is an independent 501C3 with its own staff, Board and funding sources and has been chosen by the NYC DOHMH as the Brooklyn Public Health coordinator

Project Case Study: The NORC With Out Walls Objective To create a new model of Naturally Occurring Retirements Community (NORC) structure revolving around one and two family homes Actions Acted as the Community Organizers for this project . Identified and convened stakeholders to create a structure and buy in for this new national model Results Created governance structure for NORC WOW project Developed innovative community based programming for seniors in this community

Case Study: Far Rockaway Women's Economic Empowerment Project- Breaking the Cycle: 

Case Study: Far Rockaway Women's Economic Empowerment Project- Breaking the Cycle Trains and Educates Community and Faith Leadership on the issues and solutions to the cycle of poverty plaguing their community Conducts workshops in Financial Literacy, Micro Enterprising, Benefits amongst others A partnership with the Coalition for Far Rockaway

Project Case Study: Queens Forum at LaGuardia Community College: 

Project Case Study: Queens Forum at LaGuardia Community College Forum aims to convene community leadership to develop common strategies to pressing issues they face by training those leaders with the skills needed to build community coalitions. Objectives Identify and bring together leadership representing this diversity Engage participants in strategic planning for new initiatives Conduct roundtables on the new emerging immigrant groups of Queens Provide workshops on coalition and other community building Results Founding of Coalition for Far Rockaway by training participant Trained over 600 community leaders CUNY request to replicate program at additional other education institutions

Project Case Study: Bridge to Brotherhood: 

Project Case Study: Bridge to Brotherhood Convenes top teen leaders from coalition partners A teen leadership partnership between the Arab- American Family Support Center, Aspira, The Chinese – American Planning Council, JCRC and the Urban League. Designed to train these leaders to work and live in our new diversity Training future leaders under the motto of Shared Resources for a Shared Future
