(PA acting globally) In 2001, the Göteborg European Council launched the EU strategy for SUST DEV: “sustainable development requires global solutions”, promoting global economic and social development while protecting the environment
The potential benefits of ET is of great importance for developing Countries: with sufficient technology transfer they can provide these Countries with affordable solutions for reconciling their desire for strong economic growth with the need to do so without increasing the pressure on the local, or the global, environment.
The EU also shares responsibility for the global environment

To strengthen the dialogue with financial institutions
Environmental technologies can thus play an important role in achieving internationally agreed development goals
National action and international cooperation are needed to improve the capability of local workers to adapt technologies to upgrade them and eventually to reach a higher grade of technological autonomy

Slide4: The Italian Ministry of the Environment and Territory started its Environmental Cooperation Programme with the People's Republic of China in 2000.
This Programme is being implemented in cooperation with several Chinese national institutions and municipal authorities
Under this programme, 57 projects have so far been developed, inter alia, for developing renewable energy sources, energy efficiency, sustainable urban planning, developing low-emission transport systems and technologies, high energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly materials and technologies in buildings and housing sector..
The initiative is one of the priority actions within the Italian Roadmap (Acting Globally) The Sino-Italian environmental cooperation program

The Sino-Italian environmental cooperation program: How the cooperation works The Sino-Italian environmental cooperation program Joint Program Management Office: Permanent Sino-Italian Environmental Protection Window* SEPA CASS MOST MATTM CNR, Italian Universities, Mattei Foundation, university Consortium of Industrial and Managerial Economics *Joint Program Management Office, based in Beijing and Shanghai, staffed by an innovative team of Sino-Italian expert NDRC Chinese universities and Chinese Municipalities

“Eco-intelligent building" The Sino-Italian environmental cooperation program
The Sino-Italian environmental cooperation program: The Sino-Italian environmental cooperation program Eco-intelligent building - SIEEB China is experiencing and extraordinary expansion of its building stock:
1991-2000 residential buildings were built for nearly 5 billion square metres
1996-1999 energy consumption of the building sector jumped from 24,59% to 27,81% of the tot. energy consumption Necessity to create the right conditions to develop new building of low environment impact
The Sino-Italian environmental cooperation program: The Sino-Italian environmental cooperation program Eco-intelligent building - SIEEB SIEEB is a “smart” and eco-friendly building and being built on Tsinghua University Campus in Beijing. The technically advanced, environmentally friendly and energy efficiency building (20.000mq) will host office, laboratories, an exhibition centre for Italian technologies and a conference facility.
With a total height of 40m, ten storeys are above ground and two underground with the fist two levels for public use and house the exhibition center and a commercial activities. Chinese and Italian architect and engineering enterprises developed the project in cooperation
