Premium member Presentation Transcript Marcena Lozano : Marcena Lozano February 7, 1980 - August 31, 2005Slide3: Marcena was born with a congenital heart defect, called Transposition of the Great Arteries.Slide4: She had her first operation when she was one day old.Slide5: She had her first open heart surgery when she was six months old…Slide6: She barely grew during her first six months, and weighed only 10 lbs. for her first surgery.Slide7: The open heart surgery was to correct the defect, and resulted in Marcena needing a pacemaker from the time she was six months old.Slide8: Although the pacemaker limited Marcena’s physical ability, her condition didn’t delay her learning to speak and walk, as the doctors predicted it would.Slide19: Marcena is the oldest of three children.Slide20: She was 13 when she had her first heart transplant on July 28, 1993 at Pittsburgh Childrens’ Hospital. She was in the hospital for 6 weeks, and went right back to school after her surgery.
