Presentation Description

An in-depth investigation into ancient near eastern mythology and the deities that were revered in many cultures around the world. Do they have a central mythos and can we attribute the symbols to one primary deity, or many aspects of the same deity?

2 Every one knows that the sun and moon , under various names such as Isis and Osiris , Adonis and Astarte , were the principal objects of worship in the east from the earliest times ; the sun being considered as the vivifying power of universal nature , the moon represented as a female , deriving her light from the sun , as the passive principle of production . 1 Morals and Dogma P.251) 2 Fishes , flowers, & fire as Elements and Deities in the phallic faiths of worship of the Ancient Religions of Greece, Babylon, Rome, India, A. Reader, Orange Street, Red Lion Square, London, 1890 , p11 1 In the Mysteries , the nailing up of the body of Osiris in the chest or ark was termed the aphanism , or disappearance [of the Sun at the Winter Solstice , below the Tropic of Capricorn ], and the recovery of the different parts of his body by Isis , the Euresis , or finding . The candidate went through a ceremony representing this , in all the Mysteries everywhere . The main facts in the fable were the same in all countries; and the prominent Deities were everywhere a male and a female . In Egypt they were Osiris and Isis : in India , Mahadeva and Bhavan i : in Phoenicia , Tammuz (or Adonis ) and Astarte : in Phrygia , Atys and Cybele : in Persia , Mithras and Asis : in Samothrace and Greece , Dionysus or Saba Zeus and Rhea : in Britain , Hu and Ceridwen : and in Scandinavia , Woden and Freya : and in every instance these Divinities represented the Sun and the Moon .

Left Eye Right Eye

Mephistopheles Satan : St Michael standing in triumph over the fallen Satan , modelled by Jacob Epstein in 1962 for the new cathedral at Coventry . As with all the early images of Satan defeated , he merely lies prone at the feet of the arch angel (or in some cases Christ ) but he is never slain . The image may be seen as an anthropomorphic symbol of warfare in man between the Sun and the Moon , as Michael is the Archangel of the Sun , while Satan , as leader of the demonic hosts , is the ruler of the Lunar Sphere Satan

“The Flood immortalises the collision of a fallen planet , later termed Satan , actually a cometary body , with our Earth” William Comyns Beaumont

1 Two fifth-century B.C . playwrights, Euripides and Sophocles , each of whom, wrote a dramatic play about a woman named Andromeda . Her story was old even at the time . The nineteenth century English orientalist, Archibald H. Sayce of Oxford, claimed that Andromeda , under another name , appeared in the ancient Babylonian Epic of Creation , written about 2000 B.C ., not too long after the Flood . In the story of Marduk and the dragon , Tiamet , we find the oldest reference to the story of Perseus and Andromeda . Tiamet 7 was the monster of primeval chaos , and was associated with the constellations Draco , 2 Hydra , 3 Cetus , and Serpens . The latter is part of the constellation Ophiuchus . 1 Cetus – The Sea Monster, Gerardus D. Bouw , Ph.D ., p3 2 The Chinese divided Hydrus into four asterisms : the serpent’s head ; the serpent’s belly ; and the serpent’s tail . The fourth part was called Foo Pih , the meaning of which is lost but which was marked by the star. So there is evidence attesting to the antiquity of this constellation . 2 Hydra the Serpent - Gerardus D. Bouw , Ph.D ., p2 3 Draco the Dragon - Gerardus D. Bouw , Ph.D ., p2 Job 7:12 - Am I a sea , or a whale (KJV writes Sea Serpent ), that thou settest a watch over me ? ( Job 40:15 Behemoth and 41:1-34 Leviathan - Psa . 74:13-14 ; Rev. 13:1 7 heads ) Ezek 32:2 - Son of man , take up a lamentation for Pharaoh king of Egypt , and say unto him, Thou art like a young lion of the nations , and thou art as a whale (KJV writes monster ) in the seas Gen 1:21 - And God created great whales , (KJV writes sea creatures ) and every living creature that moveth , Mat 12:40 - For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly (KJV writes great fish) ; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth .

1 Hydra the Serpent - Gerardus D. Bouw , Ph.D ., p3-4 Lucida solitary one, the separated one, as one cut off from life 1 The star s , at the nose of the serpent , is called Minchir alSugia , casting down of the deceiver . The stars d, e, z, h, r, and s , forming the head of Hydra , were collectively known as Min al Azal , the reserved place . It lies directly in the path that Leo the lion is heading , as if the Lion of Judah is en route to bruise the head of the serpent ( 2 Gen . 3:15 ). 2 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman , and between thy seed and her seed ; it shall bruise thy head , and thou shalt bruise his heel Footnote : Acts 9:5 (allegedly written by Lux / L ucius / Luke ) speaks about a church and Saul of Tarsus persecuting Y ahweh’s church , but is that Yeshua / Y ahweh’s earthly temple or the spiritual one not of this earth ?

1 Hydra the Serpent - Gerardus D. Bouw , Ph.D ., p2 1 Originally , the constellations Hydra , Corvus , and Crater ( the cup ) were one . Hydra is pictured on a stone constellation map from the Euphrates . Dating from about 1200 BC ., the serpent is there identified with the source of the fountains of the great deep , and is one of the several sky symbols of Tiamat , the great dragon . Now called a crow , originally it was seen as a raven . Usually “ crow ” is reserved for the North American variety of the raven . The constellation was a raven to the Romans , Greeks , and Hebrews . It has also been associated with Noah’s Raven ( Gen. 8:7 ) Mercury: 87.97 days (0.2 years) Venus : 224.70 days (0.6 years) Earth : 365.26 days ( 1 year ) Mars: 686.98 days ( 1.9 years) Jupiter : 4,332.82 days ( 11.9 years ) Saturn : 10,755.70 days ( 29.5 years ) Uranus : 30,687.15 days ( 84 years ) Neptune : 60,190.03 days ( 164.8 years ) On or over the back of the serpent is the constellation of Crater , the cup . The early Greeks called it the goblet of Apollo , .. The Jews called it Cos , a cup . The only named star is Alkes , which is another form for “ the cup .”. Also , in the surrounding constellations , we see the Lion charging to bruise the head of the serpent Lucida

1 The A ether was also known as Zeus's defensive wall , the boundary that locked Tartarus from the rest of the cosmos. According to the poet Alcman , Aether was the father of Ouranos , the god of the sky . While Aether was the personification of the upper air , Ouranos was literally the sky itself , composed of a solid dome of brass Aether is one of the primordial deities , the first-born elementals . His name means " light " in ancient Greek . Aether is the personification and elemental god of "the bright , glowing upper air of heaven - the substance of light ". He embodies the pure upper air that the gods breathe , as opposed to the normal air ( Ἀήρ , aer ) breathed by mortals According to Epiphanius , the world began as a cosmic egg , encircled by Time and Inevitability (most likely Chronos and Ananke ) in serpent fashion . Together they constricted the egg , squeezing its matter with great force , until the world divided into two hemispheres . After that, the atoms sorted themselves out. The lighter and f iner ones floated above and became the Bright Air ( Aether and/or Ouranos ) and the rarefied Wind ( Chaos ), while the heavier and dirtier atoms sank and became the Earth ( Gaia ) and the Ocean ( Pontos and/or Oceanus ).

A few subtle themes arises through all the mythologies and the pantheons; and that is there is an original creation process where a new species of man or being is created , made , formed , constructed , moulded , built , fashioned , (bio) engineered , imagined , brought forth , begat , breathed life into , ect . Cronus indo-european etymology of the name may mean ‘’to cut; to make, create ”; (Rig Veda 10.104.10) later corrupted into a circumcise/castrate ritual In Greece , the elementals create 12 Titans , 6 male and 6 female ( 7 each in the Old Testament and Egyptian legends with the 14 body parts of Osiris that are re-assembled by Isis as she performed the Euresis ). The Tree / Casket / Coffin is also symbolic in the Isian stories. The Titans also have the appearance of being white, or using white clay as if they are not black skinned . This dominant ‘master’ race , The Titans , then birth progeny of giants or lesser titans (sons and daughters) and these ‘ Olympians ’ eventually seek to overthrow/rebel against their fathers / mothers / creators Being drunk or drunkeness is present in overthrowing of the olden ones as well as drink being used in the Old Testament as a source of beguilement Tartarus is the equivalent of an, inescapable prison ; a pit or dark , foul-smelling abyss (a hell-hole) made of adamantine and hard as diamond , which holds 200 rebel giants , held in contempt until their release (judgment) or ‘ jail break ’ (which could be temporary ). Paradoxically , Enoch suggests these rebel watchers faced an unforgivable crime as he pleaded on their behalf before Enlil , so ‘ judgement ’ seems odd in the context that they have already been judged and placed into Tartarus or Sheol; they cannot be saved and they cannot be forgiven .. Or can they?

Chronos was imagined as a god, serpentine in form , with three heads - those of a man , a bull , and a lion . He and his consort , serpentine Ananke ( Inevitability ), circled the primal world egg in their coils and split it apart to form the ordered universe of earth, sea and sky In the Orphic cosmogony the unageing Chronos produced Aether and Chaos , and made a silvery egg in the divine Aether . It produced the hermaphroditic god Phanes , who gave birth to the first generation of gods and is the ultimate creator of the cosmos

1 "In 1492 , Bede mentions that 'a God Krodo is worshipped in the Hartz , having his feet on a fish , a wheel in one hand and a pail of water in the other — clearly a Vishnoo or Fishnoo solar deity carrying the solar or lunar disk , and the ark or womb of fertility . These fish-gods , as Mr . Baring Gould states in the case of the American Kox-Kox or Teokipaktli , i.e., fish-god , much resemble the Old Testament Noah , for Kox , encountered a flood and rescued himself in a cypress trunk ( a true phallic symbol ), and peopled the world with wise and intelligent beings .' 2 Jacob Grimm refers to Krodo in his Teutonic Mythology Volume 1 and relates Him to the Roman God Saturn . We are told of an image of this Saturn or Krodo , which represented the idol as a man standing on a great fish , holding a pot of flowers in his right hand , and a wheel erect in his left ; the Roman Saturn was furnished with the sickle , not a wheel ." Grimm draws further connections to the Slavic Gods Sitivrat and Kirt : "... but beside Sitivrat we have learnt another name for Saturn , namely Kirt , which certainly seems to be our Krodo and Hrudo ." 2 http :// 1 Fishes , flowers, & fire as Elements and Deities in the phallic faiths of worship of the Ancient Religions of Greece, Babylon, Rome, India, A. Jupiter , the s upreme god of the heathens , son of Saturn and Rhea . When Jupiter and Juno , being twins , were born…They carried him into the island of Crete , where he was suckled by a goat . Saturn (his father) drove him out of heaven , and obliged him to conceal himself in Latium He then married his sister Juno Giving the empire of the waters to Neptune , and that of the infernal regions to Pluto Pallas/ Minvera , and the other gods , were desirous o f throwing off his yoke ; but he defeated them, and constrained them to fly into Egypt , where they assumed different shapes ; he pursued them in the form of a ram … He metamorphosed himself into all manner of shapes to deceive them ; sometimes he was a satyr , to surprise Antiope … He abused Leda , daughter of Tyndarus , in the shape of a swan To deceive Europa , daughter of Agenor , he changed himself into a bull ,…and at length metamorphosed himself into an eagle , to carry off Ganimede , son of Tros , and carried him into heaven, where he was made his cup bearer

Proverbs 8:22 “ The LORD possessed me at the beginning of His way . Before His works of old. I have been established from everlasting . From the beginning before there was ever an earth . When there was no depths , I was brought forth , before the mountains were settled , before the hills I was brought forth , while as yet made the earth or the fields , .. When He prepared the heavens , I was there , when He drew a circle on the face of the deep .. Then I was beside Him as a Master craftsman ... Rejoicing in His inhabited world , .. And my delight was with the sons of men .. [ 33 ] Hear instruction and be wise ” Proverbs 8:18 “ Wisdom has built her house , She has hewn out her Seven Pillars ” Proverbs 9:8-9 “ Do not correct a scoffer , lest he hate you . Rebuke a wise man, and he’ll love you . Give instruction to a wise man and he will be still wiser. Teach a just man , and he will increase in learning [ 11 ] for by me your days will be multiplied , And years of life will be added to you . If you are wise , you are wise for yourself , and if you scoff , you will bear it alone ”[ 10:27 ] “The fear of the LORD prolongs days”

My son, if sinners entice you, do not consent ” Proverbs 1:19 “So are the ways of everyone who is greedy for gain , it takes away the life of its owners ” (see Micah 2:1-2 as ‘ evil-doers ’ – UnlawfulViolence in-equity and home /theft ) Proverbs 6:12 “A worthless person ; a wicked man , 6 attributes it attaches to wicked : which “the LORD hates ” ( Proverbs 6:16 “Yes, Seven are an abomination to him” He winks with his eyes [1] He shuffles his feet [2] He points with his fingers [3] Perversity is in his heart [4] He devises evil constantly [5] He sows discord [6] A proud look [1] ( Proverbs 13:10 “pride”) A lying tongue [2] ( Proverbs13:5 “lying”) Hands that shed innocent blood [3] ( Proverbs 13:20 “company”) A heart that devises evil plans [4] ( Proverbs 13:11 “dishonestly”) Feet that are swift to return to evil [5] A false witness who speaks lies [6] ( Proverbs 13:22 “children”) One who spreads discord among brethren [7] ( Proverbs 15:22 ) Proverbs 13:7 “ There is one who makes himself rich, yet has nothing, and one who makes himself poor, yet has great riches ”

Proverbs 8:1-5 “ Does wisdom not cry out , and understanding lift up her voice ? She takes her stand on top of the high hill .. And my voice is to the sons of men , O you simple ones, understanding prudence, and you fools, be of an understanding heart…receive my instruction , and not silver. And knowledge rather than choice gold. For wisdom is better than rubies, and all the things one may desire cannot be compared with her ” Proverbs 8:1-5 “ I , wisdom , dwell with prudence , and find out knowledge and discretion .. My fruit is better than gold, yes, than fine gold , and my revenue than choice silve r ” Proverbs 11:4 “ Riches do not profit in the days of wrath ” Proverbs 11:28 “ He who trusts in his riches will fall ”

"No one is free except Zeus ." ( Cratos to Hephaestus. Aeschylus, Prometheus Bound 50 ). "A free man? - There is no such thing! All men are slaves; some, slaves of money ; some, of chance ; others are forced, either by mass opinion, or the threatening law, to act against their nature .“ ( Hecabe 1 to Agamemnon. Euripides, Hecabe 864 ). "We men are in prison all that time which we choose to call life. For this soul of ours, being bound and fettered in a perishable body, has to endure many things, and be the slave of all the affections which visit humanity .“ (Flavius Philostratus , Life of Apollonius of Tyana 7.26)

“After the first Dionysus [ Zagreus ] had been slaughtered , Father Zeus ... attacked the mother of the Titanes [ Gaia the Earth ] with avenging brand , and shut up the murderers of horned Dionysus [the Titans dismembered the godling Zagreus ] within the gate of Tartarus [after a long war]: the trees blazed , the hair of suffering Gaea ( Earth ) was scorched with heat . . . Now Okeanos poured rivers of tears from his watery eyes , a libation of suppliant prayer . Then Zeus claimed his wrath at the sight of the scorched earth ; he pitied her , and wished to wash with water the ashes of ruin and the fiery wounds of the land . Then Rainy Zeus covered the whole sky with clouds and flooded all the earth [ in the Great Deluge of Deukalion ].” — Nonnus , Dionysiaca 6. 155 ff

Later it was natural for the Greek writers like Herodotus and Plutarch to ‘rationalise’ Amun by observing that he was Olympian Zeus among the Egyptians . This identification with the Greek god is maintained into the Roman period . Amun epithets ‘ shooting-star ’, ‘ invincible bull ’ ‘ crocodile ’ ( Sobek )

Each feather is divided vertically into two sections – the ‘ dualism ’ in the iconography reflects the Egyptian world-view of balanced opposites , e.g. the Two Lands ( North and South Egypt ). In each plume the horizontal segments add up to seven , a highly charged number in Egyptian religion The Nile Goose is sacred to Amun . The pre-eminent sacred creature of Amun ( Zeus/Jupiter/Jove ) is the ram with curved horns Amun’s name seems to be connected with the word meaning “ to conceal ” ( the hidden one ). Another possible name of Amun is an ancient Libyan word ‘ aman ’ meaning ‘ water ’ Amun’s name offers no such visual clue . The concept of the god’s invisibility admirably suits his association with the ‘ breeze ’ or the notion of Amun as an unseen demiurge . The Kebra Nagast (Ethiopic account of Solomon and Queen Sheba ) 100. Concerning the Angels who rebelled And the Merciful One and the Lover of mercy answered them on behalf of Adam , and said unto them, “ You have I created out of fire and air with one intent [that ye should] praise [ Me ]. Him have I created of twice as many elements as you – of dust and water , and of wind and fire ; and he became [ a being ] of flesh and blood . And in him are ten thoughts ( or intentions) , five good , and five bad . And if his heart inciteth him to good, he walketh with good intent; and if the Devil seduceth him , he walketh with him on an evil path. As for you , ye have no other object in your minds but praise of Me , with the exception of that arrogant one who produced evil , and became an evil being , and was driven forth from your assembly . “ Now Satan hath no power whatsoever , for he hath only what he maketh to germinate in the mind ; he cannot grasp firmly , and he cannot perform anything , and he cannot beat , and he cannot drag , and he cannot seize , and he cannot fight ; he can only make thoughts to germinate silently in the mind . And him who is caught by the evil mind he prepareth for destruction ; and if [a man] hath conquered the evil mind he findeth grace and hath a reward which is everlasting

1 And straightaway God was wroth with them , and He bound them in the terror of Sheol until the day of redemption , as the Apostle saith , “ He treated his angels with severity . He spared them not, but made them to dwell in a state of judgment, and they were fettered until the Great Day . The word of God conquered, Who had fashioned Adam in his likeness (or, form), and those who had reviled and made a laughingstock of Adam were conquered. 2 And the daughters of Cain with whom the angels had companied conceived , but they were unable to bring forth their children , and they died . And of the children who were in their wombs , some died , and some came forth ; having split open the bellies of their mothers they came forth by their navals . And when they were grown up and reached the man’s estate they became giants , who height reached unto the clouds ; and for their sakes and the sakes of sinners the wrath of God became quiet, and He said, “ My spirit shall only rest on them for one hundred and twenty years , and I will destroy them with the waters of the Flood ( Genesis 6 , 2-4 ) 1.2 The Kebra Nagast (Ethiopic account of Solomon and Queen Sheba) p.159;160 He showed that the Sign of the Cross was fourfold . Now the four corners of the ark are the horns of the altar ; and He commanded Moses to make the ark out of indestructible wood

The Japanese represent their Messiah emerging like Vishnoo from a fish , and as such call him Kan -On or Can-on , and his temple, Onius , and make his spirit repose on twelve cushions , just as they do in the case of Fo or Boodha , showing clearly the solar significance of the whole . 1 Kan-On , Kwannon , Kanzeon - Goddess of Harmony , Compassion and Mercy "Observing the Sounds (or Cries) of the World” She’s the Japanese version of China’s GUAN-YIN , who is really a female manifestation of India’s AVALOKITESVARA (Androgynyne – See slides 11-12) 2 Due to her symbolizing compassion , in East Asia Guanyin is associated with vegetarianism . Chinese vegetarian restaurants are generally decorated with her image , and she appears in most Buddhist vegetarian pamphlets and magazines She is generally regarded by many as the protector of women and children . By this association she is also seen as a fertility goddess capable of granting children. She is also seen as the champion of the unfortunate, the sick, the disabled, the poor, and those in trouble . Some coastal and river areas of China regard her as the protector of fishermen , sailors , and generally people who are out at sea , thus many also come to believe that Mazu , the Taoist goddess of the sea , is a manifestation of Guanyin . Due to her association with the legend of the Great Flood , where she sent down a dog holding rice grains in its tail after the flood , she is worshiped as a rice goddess 2 Did the resurrected Christ visit Asia? St. Augustine said of Christ : ' He is the great Fish that lives in the midst of the waters ; ' so no wonder that Ichthus , a fish , should become a holy term , and applied to Christ's representative , who in token wears a Poitrine as his higher officers wear what is called a mitre or turban like a fish's mouth . Christ , being a Hebrew, of course received the title Ikthus from his Greek followers , just as he got I.H.S . - the monogram of Bacchus - from those who forsook that god to follow Christianity . There is nothing sacred about such matters. Ich or Ik , or Ak = Ab , at once Our Father and water ; and in India the fish is the god of the water , and so we have Dev-ab , from which may come Deg -an or Dagon . The Greeks , of course, used Thus or theus , and so Ik-theus or God- Ik ; at any rate Christians have made Ik -thus a veritable God , and water its element a very holy thing . The most ancient Keltic tongues seem to identify the two , for water in Gaelic is Uisye , the water of life being Wisge ( whiskey ), and a fish Iasg , or in old Irish , Iska or Ischa , which is an Eastern term for Jesus . If V or F - the digamma - is here admissible , then we arrive very near our own word Fish . Perhaps Vishnoo , Vicnu or Fishnoo , is responsible here, for he is the first who rises out of the water , and from a fish ; and from his first incarnation to his last , H e is always connected with both ." 1 Fishes , flowers, & fire as Elements and Deities in the phallic faiths of worship of the Ancient Religions of Greece, Babylon, Rome, India, A. 1 The Assyrians often represented Ishtar as the upright fish , probably because of the fecundative powers of the fish , and as the creature par excellence of water . The great mythic queen Semiramis , wife of Ninus , the founder of Nineveh or Ninus , was said to have sprung from a fish some twenty-three centuries BC , and to be representative woman , Eva or Mary …" The mythic genealogy of Semiramis begins with a fish and ends with Ninyas . Her mother was Dorketo the Fish Goddess of Askalon , in Syria , where she was worshipped as Astarte or Aphrodite 1 Fishes , flowers, & fire as Elements and Deities in the phallic faiths of worship of the Ancient Religions of Greece, Babylon, Rome, India, A. Reader, Orange Street, Red Lion Square, London, 1890 , p22 In a bas-relief from Korsabad representing a naval engagement , or the siege of a city on the sea coast, we have the god nearly as described by Berosus . To the body of a man as far as the waist, is joined the tail of a fish . The three-horned cap , surmounted by the flower in the form of a fleur-de-lis , as worn by the winged figures of the bas reliefs, marks the sacred character . The Dagon of the Philistines of Ashdad evidently resembled the figure on the Assyrian sculptures and cylinders . When it fell before, the ark , the head and both the palms of his hands were cut oft' upon the threshold ; only the fishy part of Dagon was left to him. (I. Samuel, v.4 ). Although the image, like that of the Assyrians , appears to have been originally male ; at a later period , it became female in Syria , as we learn from Lucian ( de Dea Syria ), and Diodorus Siculus , who describes the idol at Ascalon with the face of a woman and body of a fish . (Lib. ii .) An icthyolatry , connected with Derceto or Atergates , was perhaps confounded with the worship of Dagon .

The sacred scriptures , in Hebrews , bestow on him the masculine gender , and so do the authors of the Greek version . Philo Biblius says of Dagon , that he is a fruiterer and the son of Coelus , and thus thinks he should be called, because he first discovered fruit . For Dagon in Hebrew is translated by the Greek word Siton , which means fruit . He is also said to be the inventor of the plough , therefore was named Zeus the plougher , as if he were Jupiter , the president of agriculture . "The temple of Dagon is called Beth-Dagon , which is pure Hebrew. (See I. Maccabeus x., 23 .) ' The horsemen also being scattered in the field, fled to Azotus and went into Beth-Dagon , their idol's temple , for safety.' Venus of the Ascalonites -that is Derceto - has the very same name with Herodotus , as Mylitta , Alitta , and the mother of the gods , and about the temple of the goddess of Hierapolis , fish and doves were received as sacred , and in her honour , no less than where Derceto was worshipped .

1 The Scriptures make him a masculine god , but what has been said elsewhere of the common sex of the gods should be here considered, for this very Dagon was changed into the goddess Adirclaga , that is, Atergatis , Adargatis , Derceto ( Derketo ?) , and those other names mispronounced by the Europeans . It is certain that the Phoenician and Babylon goddess is the very same figure as Dagon , if you will change the sex . Lucianus describes briefly the image of Derceto as seen by him in Phoenicia , and it answers to that of Dagon . But also among other great writers the goddess of Hierapolis is called Derceto , or Atergatis . 2 Semi'ramis , a famous queen of the Assyrians , who was daughter of the goddess Darceto . She was exposed soon after her birth, and was fed by pigeons , on account of which she received her name for Semiramis in the Assyrian language signifies a pigeon . It was she that built the magnificent gardens and wall of Babylon . 2 Compendius Dictionary of Fabulous History – Heathen Gods Goddesses and Heroes, page 226 1 Fishes , flowers, & fire as Elements and Deities in the phallic faiths of worship of the Ancient Religions of Greece, Babylon, Rome, India, A. 1 The fish was sacred to Venus , and was a favourite esculent among the luxurious Romans . The fish was an emblem of fecundity . The word nun , however, in the Hebrew , signifies to sprout , to put forth , as well as fish ; and thus the fish symbolises the male principle in an active state . The creature had a very strong symbolic connection with the worship of Aphrodite , and the Romanists still eat it on that day of the week called Dies Veneris , Venus ' Day ." "The fish was also associated with Isis , who, like Venus , represented the female element in creation . It was likewise a sacred emblem amongst the Buddhists . 1 Fishes , flowers, & fire as Elements and Deities in the phallic faiths of worship of the Ancient Religions of Greece, Babylon, Rome, India, A. in 1995 I noticed a previously undetected association between the Alphabet and the moon which led to a thesis about its conception. Several key letters appear to have originated as symbols not only representing , but also tracing the phases of the lunation . The moon-god alone is visible . The visible phases were deemed male in part because the terminal crescents resemble a phallus (the ‘phallus’ figuratively reflected as a ‘brandished blade’) , capable of ‘ rising ’. Yet two nights each lunation , the moon-god too is compelled to retreat into the darkness of the underworld to be restored to sight through the intercession of the goddess .

1 Focal E gyptian and H ellenic pantheons [1] N ephthys - first dark night – Artemis (1) [2] I sis - second dark night – Demeter (2) (3) H orus - waxing crescent – Ares (3) (9) T hoth - waxing half-moon – Hermes (4) ( 15) A mon - first full-moon – Apollo (5) ( 16) R a - second full-moon – Zeus (6) (17) Set - first waning phase – Poseidon (7) (23) P tah - waning half-moon – Hephæstus / vulcan (8) (30) O siris - waning crescent - Hades/Pluto (9) These nine identifiable phases presented ideal candidates for deification in ancient cultures ( eg , the Egyptian Ennead or Paut ) while the seven identifiable spectres accord with the sacred number seven If ancient iconography proves lunar , the goddess , as becomes evident from the model of the lunation , is never seen; she remains out of sight in the underworld (the white , or lunar goddess thereby synonymous with the earth-mother goddess in various cultures ). Which may explain why the so-called Venus figurines lack faces ( the absence of eyes signalling invisibility ). 1 The Lunar Basis of Ancient Myth and Symbol, p10

Two Marys , one no stranger to ‘ sin ’ (the carnal Mary Magdalene ), the other beyond reproach (the ethereal Virgin Mary ), remarkably sustain the ancient iconography of twin goddesses resident in the underworld (one sinister , the other sanctified ), personifying the two dark phases between visible lunations . In the Egyptian myth , Osiris ( waning crescent , resembling a phallus ) copulates with Nephthys ( wife of 1 Set) begetting Anubis , his shadow son ; while Isis (her role as ‘ double ’ accentuated in the doubled syllable of her name ) magically gives birth to Horus the avenging ‘ son ’ of Osiris . 1 Set embodied the ‘ fullest ’ waning phase while Osiris was the ‘ leanest ’. Thus it may be seen that Osiris represents Set at his leanest or oldest ( or conversely , Set , Osiris as a youth , at his fullest ). In this respect Nephthys , wife of Set , was not adulterous in receiving Osiris as her lover . This doubled name-clue in the second of the two underworld ‘ sisters ’ recurs in the names of the Sumerian goddess Inin ( Inanna , Nin , Nana ); her Hurrian counterpart Hanna- hannah ; and descriptively in Hellenic Demeter (‘ deo-metera ’ signifying “ double mother ” as well as the more evident “ mother goddess ” in ‘ thea-metera ’ ) among others. In the Arthurian cycles , ‘ evil 2 Guenevere ’, the all-but-identical half-sister of ‘ Guenevere of the regal birthmark ’, supplants her irreproachable ‘ twin ’ as Arthur’s queen , for a tell-tale two-and-a-half ‘ years ’ ( echoing the two-and-a-half days between visible lunations ) 1 The Lunar Basis of Ancient Myth and Symbol, p13 2 ‘Gyny ’ (Greek for “woman”) + ‘ ver ’ (arguably cognate with Egyptian ‘ wur ’ or “underworld”) intimating ‘underworld woman’.

1 Apollo (association with the lyre and 7 strings / planets) Cicero mentions 4 of this name, the most ancient of whom was son of Vulcan ; the second a son of Corybas , born in Crete ; the third, an Arcadian called Nomion , from his being a great legislator ; and the last, to whom the greatest honours are ascribed , the son of Jupiter and Latona (“ hidden ”), daughter of Coeus , the Titan . Of these four , it appears the last three were Greeks , and the first an Egyptian , who according to Herodotus , was the son of Osiris and Isis , and called Orus . Pausanius is of the same opinion with Herodotus , and ranks Apollo among the Egyptian divinities TV series, “ The Strain ” showing a picture of Vulcan , The weaponsmith and forger of the ‘ gods ’

Diodorus Siculus is still more express , for in speaking of Isis , after saying that she had invented the practice of medicine , he adds that she taught this art to her son , Orus , named Apollo , who was the last of the gods that reigned in Egypt. It is easy to trace almost all the Grecian fable and mythologies from Egypt ; for, if the Apollo of the Greeks was said to be son of Jupiter , it was because Orus , the Apollo of the Egyptians , had Osiris for his father , whom the Greeks confounded with Jupiter If the Greek Apollo were the god and conductor of the muses ( fates ), it was because Osiris carried with him , in his expedition to the Indies , singing women and musicians 1 Bells New Pantheon of Gods, demi-gods and Heroes, fabulous personages of Antiquity, MDCCXC, p85 Apollo is strongly associated with the mystical number seven (almost certainly a Mesopotamian concept ). In Ugaritic inscriptions he is referred to as Resep of the Arrow . Apollo was widely revered under various local synonyms by the Celts .

1 Bel or Belus son of Neptune and Lybia , was King of Assyria . They paid divine honours to his statue , and afterwards the Chaldeans and other people worshipped him under the name of Baal . Jupiter was likewise worshipped under the name . 1 A Compendius Dictionary of Fabulous History – Heathen Gods Goddesses and Heroes, page 56; 74 Apollo , son of Jupiter and Latona , and brother of Diana ; they called him Phoebus in heaven , because he conducted the chariot of the sun drawn by four horses . He was esteemed the god of poetry , music , and the liberal arts . He put himself at the head of the nine muses , and dwelt with them on the mounts Parnassus , Helicon , Pierus , the banks of the Hippocrene and Permessus , where the winged horse Pegasus generally fled. Jupiter , having killed Aesculapius with a thunderbolt , because he had raised Hippolytus from the dead , Apollo killed the Cyclops , because he had furnished him with bolts ; upon this he was driven out of heaven … he is generally painted with a lyre in his hand or near him , and sitting on a car drawn by four horses prancing along the Zodiac Associations : Bow and Arrow – Mercury – Deucalion’s Flood – Serpent Pithon Daphne & Laurel wreath – The Cock , Hawk and the O live Tree were consecrated to him

The divine order of the world This kudurru is remarkable in that in recording the royal gift, it represents the entire pantheon of gods who preserve the order of the world . The artist has used a formula that was later to be developed on other kudurrus , representing the symbols associated with each deity in hierarchical rows At the top of the stele are the astral deities , as if in the vault of the heavens. The crescent of Sin , the moon god , and the star set with the rays of Shamash , the sun god , flank the goddess Ishtar, represented by the planet Venus They are accompanied by the sovereign gods who preserve the equilibrium of the world . The crowns with six rows of horns placed on the altars are the emblems of Anu , the sky god , (the ‘ ancient and hidden one ’) and Enlil , the air god They are followed by the ram's head and the goatfish representing Ea , the god of fresh water , and the symbol of Ninhursag , the earth goddess . On the row immediately underneath are the warrior gods , whose victories in battle protect the order of the world - Nergal , represented by a weapon mounted on a dragon's back ; Zababa , shown by a weapon with the head of a bird of prey ; and Ninurta , depicted by a weapon with the head of a lion .

The Bible uses the lion as a symbol   of Babylo n ( Daniel 7:2-4 ). “ Israel is a scattered sheep . Lions themselves have done the dispersing . 1 Allat (‘ the goddess ’) Venerated in Central and North Arabia in pre-Islamic times . Herodotus records the Semitic name in the form Alilat . She was particularly revered in Ta’if where an idol to her , a white granite block , stood . She was supposed to be one of the three daughters of Allah , and was associated with the planet Venus ( morning star ). Certain texts also seem to point to a solar connection .(see Malakabel and Aglibol , Eagles and the Acacia Tree ) 1 The Routledge Dictionary of Gods and Goddesses, Devils and Demons, p9-13 Anat ( h ) To begin with, a Phoenician-Canaanite goddess whose name is interpreted as meaning ‘ providence ’ or ‘ precaution ’. The Dagon of the Philistines of Ashdad evidently resembled the figure on the Assyrian sculptures and cylinders . When it fell before, the ark , the head and both the palms of his hands were cut oft' upon the threshold ; only the fishy part of Dagon was left to him . The same idol is mentioned in Judges xvi . The meaning of the word in Hebrew is “ a fish .” Although the image , like that of the Assyrians , appears to have been originally male ; at a later period , it became female in Syria , as we learn from Lucian ( de Dea Syria ), and Diodorus Siculus , who describes the idol at Ascalon with the face of a woman and body of a fish . The Fire of Prometheus 1 All the states of the Mediterranean and Persia had , like India , baptismal forms connected with Fire . Dr. Keating, in his " History of Ireland ," speaks of the royal seat of Tlachtga , where the Fire Tlachtga was ordained to be kindled. He says :—The use of this sacred fire was to summon the Priests , the Augurs , and Druids of Ireland to repair thither and assemble upon the Eve of All Saints , in order to consume the sacrifices that were offered to their Pagan Gods ..which was called the Convocation of Visneach , and kept upon the first day of May , where they offered sacrifices to the principal deity in the island , whom they adored under the name of Beul …. and from these fires that were made in worship of the god Beul , the day upon which the Christian festival of St. Philip and St. James is observed , is called in the Irish language Beul-tinne . 1 Flowers, fish and flowers, p62 In the Rajpoot state of Marwar , in its capital Udayayoor , 'The City of the Rising Sun !' the precedence of Surya , the sun god , is still maintained .

1 We know from Herodotus that the ancient Persians , like their expatriated descendants the Parsees , were worshippers of the sun and fire , and the mysterious rites of the heathen inhabitants of Britain must have closely resembled those of the Persians , when the similarity induced Pliny to remark that Britain cultivates magic with ceremonial so august that it might be supposed that the art was first communicated from them to the people of Persia . 1 Flowers, fish and flowers, p63 He (Hone) further says :—" Beltane is also used to express the fires that were kindled in honour of Bel on that and on other clays connected with his worship , as on Midsummer Eve , afterwards called the vigil of St.John , on All- Hallowe'en , and on Yeule , which is now Christmas . Of the ceremonies practised at Beltane , and continued almost to our own times, the most remarkable and general were the fires lighted in honour of Bel ."

1 " Conjoined with Apollo in the inscription on a Roman altar found at Inveresk is an epithet bearing a considerable resemblance to the name of the sun in Gaelic . Apollini-Granno is the commencement of the inscription. Grian or Greine is the sun in Gaelic , and Grianach is ' the sunny .‘ On May-eve the Druids made prodigious fires on those carns ( cains or heaped stones ; a beacon ), which being every one in sight, could not but afford a glorious show over a whole nation. These fires were in honour of Beal or Bealan , latinised by the Roman authors into Belenus , by which name the Gauls and their colonies understood the sun : and, therefore, to this hour the first day of May is by the aboriginal Irish called La Bealteine , or the day of Belen's fire . May-day is likewise called La Bealteine by the Highlanders of Scotland ,…:—“Under " BELTANE , Beltein , the name of a sort of festival observed on the first day of May , A town in Perthshire , on the borders of the Highlands , is called Tillie- (or Tullie ) beltane , i.e. the eminence or rising ground of the fire of Baal . In the neighbourhood, is a druidical temple of eight upright stones , where it is supposed the fire was kindled . Quoting from P. Loudon, Statist. Ace. iii., 105, the writer proceeds :—" The custom still remains [in the West of Scotland ] among the herds and young people to kindle fires in the high grounds, in honour of Beltan . Beltan , which in Gaelic signifies Baal or Bel's fire , was anciently the time of this solemnity. It is now kept on St. Peter's Day ." 1 Flowers, fish and flowers, p69

The rites begin with spilling some of the candle on the ground by way of libation : on that every one takes a cake of oatmeal , upon which are raised nine square knobs , each dedicated to some particular being , the supposed preserver of their flocks and herds , or to some particular animal , the real destroyer of them : each person then turns his face to the fire, breaks off a knob, and flinging it over his shoulder, says – “ This I give to thee, preserve thou my horses; this to thee, preserve thou my sheep; and so on. After that they use the same ceremony to the noxious animals ; This I give to thee , Fox ! spare thou my lambs ; this to thee, hooded Crow ! this to thee, Eagle !" Hallow-eve is also kept sacred : as soon as it is dark , a person sets fire to a bush of broom fastened round a pole , and attended with a crowd, runs round the village . He then flings it down, keeps a great quantity of combustible matters in it, and makes a great bonfire . A whole tract is thus illuminated at the same time, and makes a fine appearance. The carrying of the fiery pole appears to be a relic of Drudism ."* 1 Flowers, fish and flowers, p69

This resemblance it is as well to notice , for epithets not similar in sound but identical in meaning are used for Apollo or the sun by classic authors and the Scottish Celts , as Gruagach , the fair-haired . Enclosures called Grianan or Greinham , ' the house of the sun ,' where the people worshipped the sun , are to be met with everywhere . On the Gruagach stones libations of milk were poured Egypt

They knead a cake of oatmeal, which is toasted at the embers against a stone . After the custard is eaten up, they divide the cake into so many portions , as similar as possible to one another in size and shape, as there are persons in the company. They daub one of these portions all over with charcoal , until it be perfectly black . They put all the bits of cake into a bonnet . Every one, blindfold , draws out a portion. He who holds the bonnet is entitled to the last bit. Whoever draws the black bit is the devoted person who is to be sacrificed to Baal , whose favour they mean to implore, in rendering the year productive of the sustenance of man and beast. There is little doubt of these inhuman sacrifices having been once offered in this country , as well as in the east, although they now pass from the act of sacrificing , and only compel the devoted person to leap three times through the flames ; with which the ceremonies of this festival are closed ." Martin's Western Islands bears similar testimony, thus: - " Another god of the Britons was Belus or Belinus , which seems to have been the Assyrian god Bel , or Belus ; and probably from this Pagan deity comes the Scots' term of Beltin - having its first rise from the custom practised by the Druids in the isles , of extinguishing all the fires in the parish until the tithes were paid ; and upon payment of them , the fires were kindled in each family , and never till then . In those days malefactors were burnt between two fires ; hence when they would express a man in a great strait , they say, He is between two fires of Bel , which in their language they express thus, Edir cla hin Veaul or Bel ." 1 Flowers, fish and flowers, p70

In the old Runic Fasti , a wheel was used to denote the festival of Christmas . Thus Durandus , when speaking of the Rites of the Feast of St. John the Baptist , informs us of this curious circumstance, that in some places they roll a wheel about to signify that the Sun , then occupying the highest place in the Zodiac , is beginning to descend "Leaping over the fires is mentioned among the superstitious rites used at the Palilia in Ovid's Fasti . The Palilia were feasts instituted in honour of Pales , the goddess of shepherds (though Varro makes Pales masculine ),

A correspondent of the Gentleman's Magazine for February , 1795 , writing from Skye , gives us:—"Curious fact relating to the worship of Baal in Ireland . The Irish have ever been worshippers of fire , and of Baal , and are so to this day . "The statue of Moloch was such that it had seven hollow chambers . One was open for meal offerings , another for turtle doves , the third for sheep , the fourth for the ram , the fifth for the calf , the sixth for the bull , and a seventh was open for him who wished to offer his child ." The face of the idol was the same as that of the calf , and the hands were evidently disposed and arranged conveniently to receive from the bystanders all that was offered . While the child was burning in the blazing fire , they danced about and beat drums to drown the horrible cries and lamentations , Moloch is also called Baal . See Jeremiah 19:5 ., " They have built also the high places of Baal to burn their sons with fire ." He is also called Milcom in Kings 11:5 ., " For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians , and after Milcom the abominations of the Ammonites ." And Luke , in Acts viii . 43 ., says, "Yea, ye took up the tabernacle of Molech ." The Syrians and Arabians call it Melcom . 1 Flowers, fish and flowers, p77

In many oriental languages Melech , means king , Milcom means their king , and Malcecem , our king , and both words in sacred scripture designate Moloch Zephaniah i . 5., "And them that worship and swear by the Lord , and that swear by Melcham ," because Moloch was especially worshipped under the name of king . As thus Baal means Lord , and as Melech or Molech or Moloch means king , they denote this god of the Ammonites ..the sacred rites of the Persian Mithra , for he also had seven sacred doors , which referred to the number of the planets , and men, women and children were likewise sacrificed to him . 1 Flowers, fish and flowers, p78 It is proper to add that neither elsewhere than in Moloch will be found Adrammelech and Anammelech , the gods of Sepharvaim . He was also called Adodus , and was worshipped by the Syrians not only as Adad-Hadad and Benhadad (and which could readily pass into Adodus ), but the very name Adad was propagated continually for ten generations in their royal families …These names, and Bedad , Hedar Mesahab , and Ahab , will be found in Genesis xxxvi . and I Kings xx Macrobius , speaking of the Syrians and this god Adodus and king of gods , says, "They gave to the god whom they venerate as the highest and the greatest the name Adad , and which means unus or one . Hada or Chada is a god of the female sex , and agrees with Adardaga or Atergatis , and was worshipped in that name in the neighbourhood of Syria . Heseychius says that Hada was the goddess Juno , and Adad a god and the sun . But Hadad very well denotes the clamour or loud noise of persons exhorting ; neither is it altogether unlike the lamentations of children in the sacritices to Moloch . And ancient writers say that the effigies of both Adad and Moloch were the same , and fashioned for expressing the sun . But Mithri , Mithir or Mether , in Persian , signifies dynasty or lord , and this is also one of the titles of Moloch . Saturn among the Latins , and Chronos among the Greeks , is oft-times considered to be Moch .

Pescennius Festus says "that the Carthaginians were accustomed to offer human victims to Saturn , and when they were overcome in battle by Agathocles , king of the Siculi , he (the king) believed that his god was angry with him, and, therefore, that he might diligently make the necessary expiation, he immolated to this god two hundred children of the nobility ..." It is almost certain that by the name of Moloch this God was worshipped in like manner among the Carthaginians . Tertullian writes :—-" That impious custom continued in Africa down to the times of Tiberias ." The Carthaginians worshipped Amilear , and that name comes from the same source as Molech . Both words are pure Hebrew or Punic , if you regard their etymology, and they mean king , or perhaps Ameliar may be queen , that is , may mean Basilia , queen of the Atlantians , and which may refer to Celestis , queen of the Carthaginians .

But the word Tophet is from the Hebrew Toph , that is, "they ask for a drum ," which was beaten and loudly sounded in the vicinity to prevent the parents hearing the most doleful lamentations and wailings of their children while the sacred rites were performing . Baal Hammon and Tanit

Some think it is the image of the Megalartian Ceres , and derive it from the Greek word artos , which means bread , because she was the goddess of corn (not House of bread or BETHEL, but ‘ house of grain ’). There is ( in Phoenician annals) a tradition among them that Saturn , one of the most ancient kings of Phoenicia , and whom they called Israel in order that he might deliver his kingdom from the greatest peril of an impending war There is another idol in this collection with the same truculent cast of features , but horned , and clasping a bunch of snakes in the right hand , a trident in the left , with serpents twined round its legs . This image has a large orifice in the belly , and flames are issuing between the ribs , so that it would appear that when the brazen image of the idol was thoroughly heated, the unhappy children intended for sacrifice were thrust into the mouth in the navel , and there grilled- savoury morsels, on which the idol seems , from its features , rabidly gloating, while the priests , we are told, endeavoured to drown the cries of the sufferers by shouts and the noise of drums and timbrels "There appear to have been two modes in which the ancient idolaters devoted their children to Moloch . In one they were sacrificed and consumed in the manner already described , a burnt offering to the idol for the expiation of the sins of their parents or their people . In the other they were only made to pass through the fire , in honour of the deity , and as a sort of initiation into his mysteries , and consecration to his service . Baptism of Fire ( Sun ) vs Baptism of Water ritual ( Moon )

Strabo informs us in book 5 in Persia,. “In the Temples of the worshippers of Anaitis and inanus , or Amanus , Persian gods among the Cappadocians , the care of the perpetual fire was committed to magi , who were called Pyrethri , or fire worshippers …These, which were built in their shrines, and which were called Pyratheia , were the eternal fires of the magi . That which they chanted was the T heogeny , or primeval history of the gods .'' The Persians received these sacred rites from the most ancient Chaldeans , and the latter called them Nergal , from two Hebrew words, nir and gal , which may mean either the fountain of fire or light , or fire or versatile light , and especially that inextinguishable fire which they watched in their holy places as the symbol of the sun . And although there were many gods in Persia , yet fire was worshipped by them before and above all other gods , in every sacrifice they especially invoked him as the Romans did Janus . But so ancient do the Hebrews make the worship of fire among the Chaldeans , that Ur of the Chaldeans , mentioned in Genesis XI ., they took for their fire god …All this you will find in their books ; and they speak of the condition of Abraham , and they declare further that Abraham was born and educated in the land of fire worshippers . He there contradicted their opinions, saying that there was another operator besides the sun.

But Abraham was cast into chains because he refused to adore their sun , and after that he was robbed of his goods , and by the king banished into Canaan . They believed that the sun ruled the world , that there was no god superior to him, and they adored fire …And here , I think, is seen the god of Nahor , son of Terah , referred to in Genesis 31:53 : - 'The god of Abraham , the God of Nahor ” It was a custom of the Persians to perform their sacred rites in the most high and elevated places , and in this way they offered sacrifice to heaven or Jove . Herodotus , in Clio, says 'it was their custom to ascend the most lofty summits of the mountains , and there immolate their victims to Jove , and calling by the name of Jove every circle of the heavens .' But it was a custom both of the Europeans and Asiatics to ascend the summits of mountains to worship Jove . Hence he was called Epakrios , or the Lofty . "That Jupiter , with Herodotus , is Belus and Assyrius , for in that name he was called Jove in the most ancient theology of the Persians , as Berosus , Athenocles , and Simachus write .

Among the Persians , the horse was sacred to the sun , and accustomed to be sacrificed to it . The same custom was transplanted among the Grecians . In ancient times the chariots were also dedicated to the same , as the swiftest of swift gods . But their place was at the door of the True God . The Jews worshipped the sun towards the east within the vestibule of the door . ( Ezekiel 8:14 ) And so on in many other places , in one of which the king is to behave like fire . " Let the king emulate the energetic action of Indra , of the sun , of the wind , of Yama , of Varuna , of the moon , of the fire , and of the earth. If he is ardent in wrath against criminals and endowed with brilliant energy, and destroys wicked vassals, then his character is said to resemble that of fire ."

" A Brahmana shall offer of the cooked food destined for the Vaisvadeva in the sacred domestic fire to the following deities : First to Agni , and next to Soma , then to both these gods conjointly , further to all the gods , and then to Dhanvautari , further to Kuhu (the goddess of the new moon day ), to Anumati (the goddess of the full moon day ), to Pragapati (the lord of creatures), to heaven and earth conjointly , and finally to Agni Svishtakrit (the fire which performs the sacrifice well)." Afterwards, some learnt to worship Brahma , others Zeus , and others again Janus ; but all had preserved as a legacy the earlier religion which they had practised at the common cradle of the race . It is remarkable that in all sacrifices , even in those offered to Zeus or to Athene , it was always to the fire that the first invocation was made . At Olympia assembled Greece offered her first sacrifice to the hearth-fire , and the second to Zeus . Similarly at Rome , the first to be adored was always Vesta , who was nothing else but the fire .

Those who have diligently investigated the religion of the Pythagorean philosophers pretend that by Vesta they meant the universe , to which they ascribed a soul , and which they worshipped as the sole divinity sometime under the name of to ‘the whole ’, and sometimes under the appellation of ‘ unity ’. However, fabulous history records two goddesses under the name of Vesta ; one the mother of Saturn , and wife of Caelum , and the other the daughter of Saturn , by his wife Rhea . The first was Terra , or the Earth , called also Cybele , and derived her name Vesta , according to some, from clothing , because the earth is clothed , vestitur , with plants and fruits , or, according to Ovid , from the stability of the earth because stat vi terra sua , or it supports itself . (life- producing, self-creating, self-supporting, self-sustaining) 1 Flowers, fish and flowers, p92 The second was Fire , and Vesta whose power was exercised about altars and houses , derives her name, according to Cicero , from fire or hearth . Accordingly the poets frequently use Vesta for fire or flame ; as they do Jupiter for air , Ceres for corn , ect . An image of Vesta , to which they sacrificed every day, was placed before the doors of the houses at Rome ; and the places where these statues were erected were called vestibula , from Vesta . (Think Vestal Virgins keeping the lamps lit ) One way of representing this goddess , it is said , was in the habit of a matron , holding in her right hand a flambeau or lamp , and sometimes a Palladium or small Victory .

The snake Nirah is often found on the edge of a kudurru , " enclosing " the stone document (land boundary stone, or entitlement deed). On this boundary stone (right) , all of the great divinities represented by their emblems appear in a true symbolic microcosm, organised into a hierarchy of superimposed registers . On the orb of the stele, as if on the celestial vault, are the astral divinities: Sin , the Moon , Shamash , the Sun , and Ishta r in the form of a star representing the planet Venus . The gods are represented by their symbols : tiaras with six rows of horns represent Anu and Enlil , the ram's head and the goat-fish represent Ea or Enki , and finally the emblem of the earth goddess Ninhursag .

1 Alilat – “a divinity of the ancient Arabians . Herodotus informs us that these people worshipped the sun and moon under the names Utrotalt and Alilat , or Alitta . It is plain that this appellation is derived from the H ebrew Balilbab or Baleila t , which signifies the night , because the moon , which was adored under his name , shines in the night . Some authors took the opinion than the Mohammadan Arabs took the crescent from the ancient religion of the Arabians , who adored the Moon . Alilat was an epithet also given to Diana and Venus by the Phoenicians , Arabians and Cappadocians ; to the former as the moon , and the latter as the evening star ” 1 New Pantheon or Historical Dictionary of the Gods , Demi-Gods , Heroes and Fabulous Personages of antiquity : also of the images and idols adored in the pagan world, page 57 Allat – An idol of the ancient Arabians before the time of Mohammed . In the pre-Islamic pantheon , the name is given to the female counter part of Allah .

The commonality of the Fire ritual is well known . Less known is the ritual of the nine-nights ( barashnomi no- shab ) which is like the Indian ritual of the same name ( navar πatri ). The No Roz occurs on the day of the spring equinox just as the festival of Indra Zarathushtra made a clear distinction between the good way ( ashavant ) and the false way ( dregvant ). The pre-Zoroastrian religion of Iran is clearly Vedic . Zarathushtra's innovation lay in his emphasis on the dichotomy of good and bad . But in details it retained the earlier structure of the Vedic divinities and their relationship as well as the central role of the fire ritual . Elsewhere , I have summarized the evidence regarding the presence of the Indian religion in West Asia in the second millennium BC . This spread appears With the Kassites in 1750BC in Mesopotamia who worshiped Surya and later for centuries in the empire of the Vedic worshiping Mitanni . The similarities in the ritual offering made by the Zoroastrians and the Hindus are well known . These offerings include the milk , water , the sap of plants , cakes of rice or wheat , fruit and vegetables , and butter Vedic elements in the Ancient Iranian Religion of Zarathushtra – Subhash Kak , pdf

1 The Mother Goddess , the female principle or Sakti , was often imaged as a serpent rising to the Ajna Charkra of the forehead , an image reminisce of the Egyptian Cobra Goddess , Uraeus , who emerges from the forehead as the third eye of wisdom , that sees and characterizes the unity of all things. The male principle was always coupled with a female principle . She was spirit . He was matter . He was the action . She was the legitimization . His power depended on his union with her , his feminine energy , without which he could not act . Proverbs 8:22 “The LORD possessed me ( wisdom ) at the beginning of His way, Before His works of old , I have been established from everlasting , From the beginning , before there was ever an eart h, when there were no depths I was brought forth , where there were no fountains abounding with water , before the mountains were settled , before the hills I was brought forth ,; while as yet He had not made the earth or the fields , or the primal dust of the world , when He prepared the heavens , I was there , when He drew a circle on the face of the deep , when He established the clouds above , when He strengthened the fountains of the deep , when He assigned to the sea its limit , so that the waters would not transgress His command , when He marked out the foundations of the earth , then I was beside his as a master craftsman , and I was daily His delight ” (consider Athena/Pallas-Athena – “owl-eyed” and craftsman and handicrafts, snake goddess) 1 A Comparative Study of the Mother Goddess in Ancient India and Egypt , W.J. 1 The Indian concept of Sakti . Sakti or the female principle was imaged as the power or the pure Cosmic energy that creates all beings and contains, supports, and directs all processes and forces . The sakti or the female principle infuses all creation with the menses of life , with the blood that creates the universe , time , truth, love, birth and death . For these reasons, the Mother Goddess is described in The M ahanivanatantra , as the one the Gods address thusly: Thou art the Original of all the manifestations ; Thou art the birthplace of even us ; Thou knowest the world, yet none know thee ... Thou art both subtle and gross , manifested and veiled , formless yet with form Who can understand thee . Resuming after dissolution, thine own form ... Thou alone remainest as One Ineffable and inconceivable though thy self without beginning , Multiform by the power of Maya ( illusion) Thou art the Beginning of all , Creatrix , Protectress and Destructress . (See Crowley’s Book of the Law ) 1 A Comparative Study of the Mother Goddess in Ancient India and Egypt , W.J. " Joye " Hardiman PhD, January 10 th 1990

How similar is this description to this one of Isis , the Egyptian Mother Goddess : the Being eternal and infinite , the creative and ruling power of heaven , earth , and the U nderworld , and of every creature and thing in them ... Mother- goddess , lady of the heaven , queen of the gods who raised up Tem in primeval time , who existed when nothing else had being , and who created that which exists ... the God-mother , giver of life ... All that has been , that is and that will be . The only Female Deity that is given prominence in early Vedic literature is Adita , the mother of the Aryan Gods , whose name means "not diti “. Dita , the Cow Goddess , was the Mother Goddess of the Pre-Aryan Civilization . In Vedic mythology she too is killed by the Aryan God Indra . After her murder , it was said that the cosmic waters flowed and were pregnant with her blood , whose shedding gave birth to the sun of the new patriarchal order and its Brahmanic elite . Hubal (Arabic: هبل ‎ ) was a moon god worshipped in pre-Islamic Arabia notably at the Kaaba in Mecca . His idol was a human figure , believed to control acts of divination , which was in the form of tossing arrows before the statue . The direction in which the arrows pointed answered questions asked of the idol . The origins of the cult of Hubal are uncertain, but the name is found in inscriptions from Nabataea in northern Arabia (across the territory of modern Syria and Iraq ). The specific powers and identity attributed to Hubal are equally unclear . Access to the idol was controlled by the Quraysh tribe . The god's devotees fought against followers of the Islamic prophet Muhammad during the Battle of Badr in 624 CE . After Muhammad entered Mecca in 630 CE , he removed the statue of Hubal from the Kaaba along with the idols of all the other pagan gods . - wikipedia 1 He had seven arrows that were used for divination . 1 Francis E. Peters, Muhammad and the origins of Islam, SUNY Press, 1994, p.109. 2 Hubal Pre-Islamic god venerated in central Arabia . His anthropomorphic image in red carnelian still stands in the Ka’aba in Mecca ; and it is possible that the black stone of the Ka’aba is connected with him in some way . 2 The Qibla (Arabic: قبلة‎‎‎, " direction "), also transliterated as Qiblah , Qibleh , Kiblah , Kıble or Kibla , is the direction that should be faced when a Muslim prays during salat . It is fixed as the direction of the Kaaba in Mecca . Most mosques contain a wall niche, known as mihrab , that indicates the Qiblah . Most multi-faith prayer rooms will also contain a Qibla , although usually less standardized in appearance than one would find within a mosque 1 Establish at thy Kaaba a clerk-house : all must be done well and with business way. 1 Alestair Crowley, The Book of the Law 2 Wikipedia

If you haven’t seen the other presentations on this site that cover the media and music industry , ( checkerboard floor and occult symbolism in the media Parts I & II ) and the symbolism that is employed at most of the concerts and musical events , this should be of no surprise to you. To the left is a screen shot of the VMA music awards 2013 Interesting to note that Jay Z , Beyonce’s handler/husband endorses Crowley’s epitome , ‘ Do what thou wilt ’ from his Thelemic book, “ the Book of the Law ” as did Peaches Geldof recently. The Music industry seems to be completely saturated with darker aspects of occult symbolism. The question remains – Why ? The 777 clothing the singer (above) is wearing is from a new clothes line called *‘ Clothesminds ’ (a play on words for “closed minds”, we believe) which features symbols such as crosses and the triple trinity of the number 777 . The red, white and black colour schemes also suggest more . Why he chose to endorse this particular product is for you, the viewer, to deduce. The occult symbols usually show up with the black and white Checkerboard floor (or other dualistic colour scheme ), and do note the female model has black angelic/demonic wings and wears the monochrome black and white patterned checkerboard trousers .

1 Pope Francis announces a Jubilee Year dedicated to mercy (March 14, 2015) It will begin on December 8 th , the Feast of the Immaculate Conception , and will come to an end on November 20 th , 2016 , the date when the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ , King of the Universe , is celebrated. The tradition of Jubilee , or Holy Year , goes back to the year 1300 , when Pope Boniface VIII decreed that it must be celebrated every century. 1 http :// In the extraordinary Jubilee he has called , Francis will honour the 50th anniversary of the closure of the 1962-1965 Vatican II council and will encourage the church to continue on the path of that turning point in church doctrine and liturgy . 2 Let the Scarlet Woman beware ! If pity and compassion and tenderness visit her heart ; if she leave my work to toy with old sweetnesses ; then shall my vengeance be known. I will slay me her child : I will alienate her heart : I will cast her out from men : as a shrinking and despised harlot shall she crawl through dusk wet streets, and die cold and an-hungered . 2 Alestair Crowley, The Book of the Law

1 The Jubilee Tradition The jubilee tradition has its roots in Judaism , when a jubilee year was celebrated every 50 years . It was meant to restore equality among all of the children of Israel , offering new possibilities to families that had lost property and even their personal freedom . The Catholic tradition of the holy year began with Pope Boniface VIII , in 1300 , who had envisioned a jubilee every century . From 1475 onwards — in order to allow each generation to experience at least one holy year — an ordinary jubilee was to be celebrated every 25 years . 1 http :// ”I am convinced that the whole Church will find in this jubilee the joy needed to rediscover and make fruitful the mercy of God, with which all of us are called to give consolation to every man and woman of our time ,” Pope Francis said. “From this moment, we entrust this holy year to the Mother of Mercy ,  that she might turn her gaze upon us and watch over our journey .”

[1] “The Emerald Tablet of Hermes , introduces us to Hiram , the hero of the Masonic legend . The name Hiram is taken from the Chaldean Chiram . The first two words in large print mean the secret work . The second line in large letters--( CHIRAM TELAT MECHASOT - means Chiram , the Universal Agent , one in Essence , but three in aspect . [2] Chiram is a word composed of three words , denoting the Universal Spirit , the essence whereof the whole creation does consist , and the object of Chaldean , Egyptian , and genuine natural philosophy , according to its inner principles or properties. The three Hebrew words Ch amah , R usch , and M ajim , mean respectively Fire , Air , and Water , while their initial consonants, Ch , R , M , give us Chiram , that invisible essence which is the father of earth , fire , air and Water . The word Chiram has been metamorphosed into Hermes and also into Herman , and the translators of the Bible have made Chiram by changing Chet into He ; both of these Hebrew word signs being very similar. In the word Herm aphrodite , ( a word invented by the old philosophers), we find Hermes changed to Herm , signifying Chiram , or the Universal Agent , and Aphrodite , the passive principle of humidity , who is also called Venus , and is said to have been produced and generated by the sea . 1 Asmodeus is an important devil in several strains of demonology ; for the origin of his name , see AESHMA . Riding a dragon , he appears in the form of a King with 3 heads , the first that of a bull , the second that of a man , and the third, that of a ram . In the popular demonologies, he is said to teach many things from arithmetic to the art of invisibility , as well as instructing in the finding of great treasure . In the Testament Of Solomon , Asmodeus reveals himself as the demon pledged to plot against the newly-wedded , ‘ to estrange the hearts of virgins, and waste away their hearts ’. Under one of his names, Asmoday , he is one of the seventy-two ( 72 ) Spirits of Solomon . According to the Michaelis Hierarchy , Asmodeus was one of the princes of the seraphim prior to the fall from heaven …he is said (as Aeshma ) as a demon of lechery or a destroying demon Aeshma , in Persian lore, was said to have the power to lead men to acts of destruction and cruelty .. 0 Law – The Bloody Code 1 II . The Bloody Code Following the Glorious Revolution in 1688 , the number of capital statutes in England and Wales grew from approximately 50 to 200 by 1820 . )Note: ended in 1832 with Reform Act and Representation of the People Act ) 2 It has been estimated that approximately 35,000 people were condemned to death in England and Wales in 1770-1830 with about 7000 actually being killed . 2 Vic Gatrell , The Hanging Tree, Execution & The English People , (OUP 1994) 7. 1 Leon Radzinowicz , A History of English Criminal Law and its Administration from 1750 , Volume I (Stephens & Sons 1948) 4. 0 The Bloody Code Harriet Evans The system would undoubtedly have collapsed sooner had it not been for the discretion of judges, jurors and prosecutors, combined with other pre-trial bodies that acted with the knowledge that “ too much truth brought too much death .”

Ruth Ellis was hanged on 13th July 1955 , by Albert Pierrepoint . Her case was the catalyst which ultimately began the anti-death penalty campaign , leading to the Homicide Act of 1957 . On 28th January 1953 , Derek William Bentley was hanged for murder at Wandsworth Prison , by Albert Pierrepoint . Albert Pierrepoint , a British executioner was sent to the trials in 1945 on behalf of the British occupation authorities. His work in Germany threw him into the spotlight , showing him on televised programmes such as Newsnight . He gave advice on hanging, explaining the correct method, and explained how it had gone wrong so many times before.

CCR5-Delta 197-215 (84.8%) is the most frequent haplotype and is a single mutation step. It is also linked to 4 other chemokine receptors C1-5 and is the ancestral haplotype that other CCR5-Delta 32 haplotypes were derived from it by 4-7 mutational or re-combinational events The last change occurred 700 years ago in the caucasion population and had rapidly increased in its frequency. By strong, selective pressure, possible an “ ancient plague ”, the nature of which is currently undetermined. Ancestry ranges from 127,000 years ago 1 The CCR5 is a requisite co-receptor for both HIV-1 infection and progression to AIDS ( A uto I mmune D eficiency S yndrome) 1 Dating the origin of the CCR5-Delta 32 AIDS-resistant allele by the coalescence of Haplotypes The estimates derived here track the persistence of the 3-locus haplotype at 700 years ; however, it is possible that the CCR5-Delta 32 mutation is somewhat older . In spite of that uncertainty, the cumulative results point to a selective sweep and to one with enormous selective mortality within historic times , perhaps mediated by a widespread epidemic . The Bubonic Plague which claimed the lives of 25%-33% of Europeans during the Black Death from 1346-1352 (650 years ago) are which has multiple outbreaks in Europe before and since, is an obvious candidate

Up to 20% of ethnic western Europeans carry this mutation , which is rare or absent in other ethnic groups . This suggests that the CCR5-delta32 mutation was strongly selected for sometime during European history . Some researchers have proposed that the plague epidemics that repeatedly swept Europe during the Middle Ages were responsible . However, recent experiments in mice suggest that Yersinia pestis , the cause of plague, can infect mammalian cells by other means and so some scientists have proposed that smallpox, which is caused by the variola virus, was the selection agent that historically caused CCR5-delta32 carriers to proliferate in Europe To infect immune cells , HIV must first bind to chemokine receptors . Researchers discovered in 1996 that people who had a naturally occurring mutation in their genes for one of these CCR5 , were strongly protected from developing AIDS — or even becoming infected in the first place — and suffered no ill effects from lacking the receptor . It may be that infectious agents like HIV only became pathogenic after degeneration from their original ‘very good’ created state. Or it may be that humans did not live in the same environment as such pathogens and so were just not exposed to them . Perhaps both these scenarios apply .

Cysteine-cysteine chemokine receptor 5 ( CCR5 ) is found in the cell membranes of many types of mammalian cells , including nerve cells and white blood cells . The role of CCR5 is to allow entry of chemokines into the cell - chemokines are involved in signaling the body’s inflammation response to injuries . The gene that codes for CCR5 is situated on human chromosome 3 . Various mutations of the CCR5 gene are known that result in damage to the expressed receptor. One of the mutant forms of the gene is CCR5-delta32 , which results from deletion of a particular sequence of 32 base-pairs . This mutant form of the gene results in a receptor so damaged that it no longer functions. But surprisingly, this does not appear to be harmful 1 CCR5 Delta-32: a very beneficial mutation (PDF) Moreover , this mutation can be advantageous to those individuals who carry it . The virus HIV normally enters a cell via its CCR5 receptors , especially in the initial stage of a person becoming infected . But in people with receptors crippled by the CCR5-delta32 mutation , entry of HIV by this means is blocked, providing immunity to AIDS for homozygous carriers and greatly slowing progress of the disease in heterozygous carriers

1 Since the beginning of the A cquired I mmuno D eficiency S yndrome ( AIDS ) epidemic, it was determined that sexual activity with multiple partners was the main risk factor to acquire human immunodeficiency virus ( HIV ) infection with the subsequent development of Aids. However, there is strong evidence suggesting a natural resistance to infection in several individuals who have remained uninfected despite the fact that they have had several expositions to HIV , particularly through sexual intercourse ( Paxton et al . 1996 ). The biological basis for this resistance is just starting to be understood . To enter the target cell the HIV requires the presence of the CD4 molecule that acts as receptor and of a second molecule or co receptor, that in the majority of cases is a chemokine receptor ( Deng et al . 1996 , Feng et al . 1996 ). Among the chemokine receptors, CCR5 and CXCR4 are the main co receptors for HIV entrance . The Delta-32 allele is present mainly in Caucasian population ( Liu et al . 1996 , Martinson et al . 1997 , Magierowska et al . 1998 ). In United States the frequency is 8% to 10% in white population but less than 1% in Afro-American individuals . There is also a very low frequency of the mutation among Caucasians in Asia ( Pakistan and India ) and it has not been reported in China , Japan or pure African population ( Martinson et al . 1997 ). In Latin America the frequencies have been barely studied . It was not detected among 32 individuals from Venezuela nor in Amerindian groups ( Liu et al . 1996 , Martinson et al . 1997 ).

AIDS Research and Therapy 1 In conclusion, our data show a significantly higher frequency of CCR5-Delta 32 heterozygous genotype among the Italian heterosexual ESN (Exposed SeroNegative ) Individuals compared to HIV-1 seropositive patients, suggesting a partial protective role of CCR5-Delta 32 heterozygosity in this cohort. 1 Frequency of CCR5 D32 Mutation in Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)-seropositive and HIV exposed seronegative Individuals and in General Population of Medellin, Colombia, Mem Inst Oswaldo Cruz, Rio de Janeiro, Vol. 95(2): 237-242, Mar./Apr. 2000 Repeated exposure to human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) does not always result in *seroconversion. Modifications in co receptors for HIV entrance to target cells are one of the factors that block the infection . From the literature one can conclude that ccr5-delta 32 genotype confers a high degree of protection to HIV infection , but it is not the main factor associated to resistance , since the majority of exposed sero-negatives lack this genetic factor. Different mechanisms such as other co receptor mutations or immunological factors could account for the lack of infections in this high-risk group.

1 Partial protective effect of CCR5-Delta 32 heterozygosity in a cohort of heterosexual Italian HIV-1 exposed uninfected individuals 3b CC chemokine receptor 5 genotype and susceptibility to transmission of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 in women. J 2,3a CCR5 genotypes in sexually active couples discordant for human immunodeficiency virus type 1 infection status. 3c Homozygous and heterozygous CCR5-Delta32 genotypes are associated with resistance to HIV infection. To the best of our knowledge , the present is the first study investigating the allelic distribution of the genetic variants CCR5-Delta 32 and CD45-C77G in a cohort of Italian heterosexually HIV-1 exposed and uninfected individuals . Our data suggest a partial protective effect of CCR5-Delta 32 heterozygosis in the Italian ESN cohort population . Further data supporting the hypothesis of a partial protective effect of CCR5-Delta 32 heterozygous genotype have been recently described Interestingly, a partial protection against HIV-1 infection has been observed in 2 three different studies . In particular, 3a Hoffman et al described a significantly higher frequency of CCR5-Delta 32 heterozygous genotype among the uninfected partners of heterosexual discordant couples , but not in homosexual couples. Similar data were reported also by 3b Philpott et al in a large cohort of women from different ethnic and racial background and with different transmission risk factors. In this study [15] the presence of the Delta 32 allele was significantly associated with lower rates of HIV-1 infection among white individuals . 3c Marmor et al , analyzing a large sample of individuals, found a protective role of CCR5-Delta 32 allele in uninfected subjects exposed to HIV-1 infection risk through homosexual intercourse .
