The Dark Continent For many years, Africa was called the “Dark Continent”. This was because explorers had only been around the edges of the continent. No one had ever gone into the interior, or inside, of Africa. Since no one knew what might be found there, it was given that name. There are still areas in Africa that do not have many people and can be very dangerous.

Schools in Kenya In the villages of Kenya, school begins at 8:30 and goes until 6:00 in the evening, including Saturdays. The children get 3 weeks off in the summer.
Many of the tribes in Kenya travel so going to school is difficult. The children sometimes go to boarding school.

Food in Kenya Since most tribes in Kenya travel, they eat the wild game and vegetables that they find as they move. Meat is a big part of the diet.
The men hunt the wild game and it is cooked over an open fire.
They find fruit and vegetables from the land. Plantain is a fruit that is eaten.
