POTENTIAL RIDERS: 

POTENTIAL RIDERS EXISTING CLIENTS OF ST. CHARLES ARC, ST. CHARLES COA, ST. JOHN ARC AND ST. JOHN COA PEOPLE WITHOUT CARS YOUNG AND ELDERLY PEOPLE WHO WORK IN DOWNTOWN NEW ORLEANS (PARK-AND-RIDE)

TYPES OF TRANSIT SERVICES FIXED ROUTE  Needs high density DEMAND RESPONSE  Requires total prescheduling DEVIATED ROUTE  Limited trips off a main route to generator points (hospital, employment center, etc.) PARATRANSIT  Serves special needs

SELF DISPATCHED USE OF WIRELESS AND GPS TECHNOLOGY RIDERS CALL TO ARRANGE A PICKUP TIME REAL-TIME-NO NEED TO CALL A DAY IN ADVANCE CALLING DENSITY IS EXPECTED TO BE LOW SUBSCRIPTION TRIPS STILL ALLOWED; CUSTOMERS CALL DISPATCHER TO ARRANGE

SCHEDULING RIDES: 

SCHEDULING RIDES Calls routed through a central number Estimate no more than 10 calls per hour Many trips will be transfers between zones Many trips will be pre-scheduled May consider hands-free technology that shows updated routes on a panel in the bus Dispatcher can handle calls if problems arise

SMALL VEHICLES: 

SMALL VEHICLES Will be sufficient to handle estimated number of riders Less wear-and-tear on streets; greater maneuverability Avoids need for drivers with CDLs

ZONE SYSTEM: 

ZONE SYSTEM Each vehicle circulates within its zone Timed transfers at designated locations on the periphery of zones, to allow riders to switch between zones

ALL-DAY SERVICE 5:45 am to 6:45 pm weekdays 6 bus zones during peak hours and 4 in off peak Will encompass existing trips plus most work trips Finances do not permit night or weekend service at this time Average headway: 60 minutes peak (early morning and late afternoon) 120 minutes off-peak some variation by area
