TABLE OF CONTENTS:

TABLE OF CONTENTS TOPIC SLIDE NO. INTRODUCTION 3 ASTHMA 4-8 LUNG CANCER 9-13

INTRODUCTION:

INTRODUCTION My topic is about diseases. I will go over and discuss twodiseases that I believe is important for people to know about and help prevent. The two disease are: asthma, lung cancer. If we have a certain amount of knowledge on these diseases, hopefully we can prevent ourselves as well as others to not get this disease.

ASTHMA:

ASTHMA Asthma: when the passage airways are narrowed by spasms (invoulntary muscke movement) by the bronchioles (small airway passageways that branches to the bronchi). Caused by chronic inflamated, hypersensitive bronchial passages that respond to many irritants (like dust, fur, etc) with dyspnea (difficulty/ shortness of breath), coughing, or wheezing.

ASTHMA (CONT.):

ASTHMA (CONT.) In the picture before, it displays the difference between a normal bronchiole and an asthmatic bronchiole. As you can see, the asthmatic bronchiole is inflamed and makes it more difficult for one to breath. For those who have asthma, it is more sivere to have hyperventilation or have a panic attack.

SYMPTOMS OF AN ASTHMA ATTACK:

SYMPTOMS OF AN ASTHMA ATTACK Severe wheezing when breathing both in and out Coughing with asthma that won't stop Very rapid breathing Chest pain or pressure Tightened neck and chest muscles, called retractions Difficulty talking Feelings of anxiety or panic Pale, sweaty face Blue lips or fingernails Or worsening symptoms despite use of your medications

WHO IS AFFECTED BY ASTHMA?:

WHO IS AFFECTED BY ASTHMA? Asthma affects 22 million Americans. Asthma may occur at any age People who have a family history of asthma have an increased risk of developing the disease. However, anyone can develop asthma at any time.

LUNG CANCER:

LUNG CANCER Lung cancer starts when abnormal cells grow out of control in the lungs. Lung cancer and smoking often, but not always, go hand in hand. There are usually are no signs or early symptoms of lung cancer. As lung cancer stages advance, lung cancer symptoms may include coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, and bloody mucus. Treatment for lung cancer can include surgery, chemotherapy, and /or radiation.

LUNG CANCER (CONT.):

HOW COMMON IS LUNG CANCER?:

HOW COMMON IS LUNG CANCER? Lung cancer is the most common cause of death due to cancer in both men and women throughout the world. The American Cancer Society estimated that 222,520 new cases of lung cancer in the U.S. will be diagnosed and 157,300 deaths due to lung cancer would occur in 2010. According to the U.S. National Cancer Institute, approximately one out of every 14 men and women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with cancer of the lung at some point in their lifetime.

SYMPTOMS OF LUNG CANCER:

SYMPTOMS OF LUNG CANCER None :(No apparent signs) Cancer-related signs : (coughing blood, wheezing, chest pain, etc.) Metastasis-related signs : (pain, weakness, or loss of sensation in body, etc.) Other symptoms :(weight loss, fatigue, etc.)

HOW TO TREAT LUNG CANCER:

HOW TO TREAT LUNG CANCER Often, lung cancer is not discovered until it is in the later stages where it is more difficult to treat and has a lower survival rate Many people do not survive this disease, but if they see their oncologists in time they can hopefully reduce or stop lung cancer and treat it.

CONCLUSION:

CONCLUSION In conclusion, I hope anyone that reads this will have learned at least something new from asthma and/or lung cancer. If we know about these and also other diseased, then maybe one day we can stop from getting or spreadind diseases.
