Rudolf Yan Lap Chris Philip Kevin Problems : Problems Inefficient use of parking space White House Chemical storage Cars blocking Emergency Vehicular Access route Quality of the car park environment Lack of plant life Government regulation of parking space and EVA dimensions Requirement of “loading bays” Requirements : Requirements *Government recommended Objectives : Objectives To improve the efficiency of the current parking system To create a new parking system which will be able to accommodate more cars To reduce the number of people parking illegally To preserve the current environment and possibly find space for more greenery Beginning Steps (Day 1) : Beginning Steps (Day 1) Determined problems that needed to be resolved Researched Hong Kong parking and EVA regulations Took measurements of the current parking lot Created a rough diagram of the current existing parking space using measurements collected Finding a solution (Day 1) : Finding a solution (Day 1) Determined whether or not the current parking spaces were approved by the government Began working on a new parking design to accommodate more vehicles – a goal of an increase of 10-15 spaces Considered how the new parking design might affect the EVA Drew a blueprint for our new design Outcome (Day 1) : Outcome (Day 1) Designed a blueprint for a new parking system which accommodates 42 cars and 3 motorcycles Widened EVA route along Block 4 from 4.5 m to 5.5 m Moved disabled parking space closer to the lift Moved White House to free up current lay-by Reduced loading bay numbers from 4 to 3 in accordance with Planning Department regulations Alternative solution (Day 2) : Alternative solution (Day 2) Considered ways in which to make the environment cleaner Increased number of spaces from current design and “greenified” the surroundings 37 spaces plus 3 motorcycles Set aside 63.8 m² of original design for greenery Comparison of Designs (Day 2) : Comparison of Designs (Day 2) Developmental questions : Developmental questions Is it possible to implement a basement car park? How do we solve the problem of illegal parking in this new car park arrangement? Is there any way to improve methods of reaching the school, especially in terms of public transport? Is it possible to reduce congestion in the roads leading to the school?
