Visiting Teachers Objectives:: For the US and Canada: To obtain qualified teachers of Spanish. To foster cultural links between Spain, the U.S. and Canada. For Spain: For Spanish teachers to acquire a more profound knowledge of American culture. To improve their teaching skills in a multicultural context. Visiting Teachers Objectives:


Visiting Teachers Selection Process: Spain runs a yearly national call to recruit candidates. Spanish administrators make a first screening of applicants. Representatives of the U.S school districts travel to Madrid and run interviews among the candidates. Expenses are paid by the Spanish Ministry of Education. Visiting Teachers Selection Process


Visiting Teachers Hiring Process: The selected Spanish teachers sign contracts with their school districts. At the present time there are over 1,200 visiting teachers from Spain in 31 states of the U.S. & Alberta, Canada (07/08) Ratios: ca. 2000 – 500 – 4.1 . Organized by topics: Biographies, Celebrations, The Arts, etc. The materials integrate the five standards for the teaching of foreign languages.

Language and Culture Assistants: OBJECTIVES: Assistants provide support to teachers in Spanish language and culture classes in US/CA and in English in Spain. 35 in US/CA and 1060 in Spain CANDIDATES: Candidates must have completed a Bachelor of Arts degree. Assistants work up to 20/14 hours per week and receive teacher training. Language and Culture Assistants


Language and Culture Assistants: WHO CAN PARTICIPATE? Primary, secondary schools and CERs in the United States and Canada / Primary, secondary and language schools in Spain (12 regions). The Ministry of Education and Science of Spain Funds the assistant’s scholarship and the medical benefits. Provides local supervision. The US/CA school/college provides lodging and transportation. Language and Culture Assistants


Ruta Quetzal: Ruta Quetzal Study and adventure trip for scholarship recipients Students travel to Latin America and Spain They follow a broad program of academic activities Student must be 16 or 17 years old and win the project contest Complete information appears on our Web site in December
