Slide1:

What is evil?

Slide2:

Goal: Free you from popular beliefs and lies about evil. The problem is, we give evil too much power and do not give God enough. As we grow in Biblical Truth we will come to realize God has ALL THE POWER.

Slide3:

Eat, Drink & Be Merry. For Tomorrow We Die

Slide4:

One of the enemy’s schemes is to frighten you into his arms. [2Co 11:13 ESV] For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. [2Co 11:14 ESV] And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. [2Co 11:15 ESV] So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds.

Slide5:

We look for HOPE and Safety and Security from the following. [Gal 5:19 ESV] Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, [Gal 5:20 ESV] idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, [Gal 5:21 ESV] envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Slide7:

Good and evil are NOT equal opposites.   The true definition of evil is offensive to humans. We like the false definition of evil because it gives us perceived “power” and reduces God’s power.

Slide8:

Four Characteristics of God.   God is HOLY.   So utterly separate from His creation.  God is immutable, Does Not Change God is Good God is Eternal

Slide9:

God is Holy: [Isa 6:3 ESV] And one called to another and said: "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!"

Slide10:

[ Psa 77:12 ESV] I will ponder all your work, and meditate on your mighty deeds. [ Psa 77:13 ESV] Your way, O God, is holy. What god is great like our God? [ Psa 77:14 ESV] You are the God who works wonders; you have made known your might among the peoples.

Slide11:

God’s Immutable: [ Psa 102:27 ESV] but you are the same , and your years have no end.   [ Psa 33:11 ESV] The counsel of the LORD stands forever , the plans of his heart to all generations.

Slide12:

[Isa 46:9 ESV] remember the former things of old; for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me, [Isa 46:10 ESV] declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, 'My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose,' [Isa 46:11 ESV] calling a bird of prey from the east, the man of my counsel from a far country. I have spoken, and I will bring it to pass; I have purposed, and I will do it.

Slide13:

God is Good & Unchanging. [Jas 1:17 ESV] Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change .

Slide14:

God is Good. [Mar 10:18 ESV] And Jesus said to him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone .

Slide15:

Psalm 86:5 For You, Lord, are good , and ready to forgive, And abundant in lovingkindness to all who call upon You.

Slide16:

1 Chronicles 16:34 O give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; For His lovingkindness is everlasting.   Psalm 106:1 Praise the LORD! Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; For His lovingkindness is everlasting.

Slide17:

God is Eternal. [Job 36:26 ESV] Behold , God is great, and we know him not ; the number of his years is unsearchable.   [ Psa 48:14 ESV] that this is God, our God forever and ever. He will guide us forever.

Slide18:

[Isa 40:28 ESV] Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable .

Slide19:

The Problem of Evil “ If God is Good and Loving, then why is there evil in the world?” In View of what God IS we can now look at what evil is NOT.

Slide20:

Evil is not from God.  [1Jo 2:15-17 ESV] 15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world--the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life--is not from the Father but is from the world. 17 And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.

Slide21:

So what is evil? What does evil look like? Name one thing of evil that does include something of God’s that is good. A haunted . . . house. A scary. . . . face It’s always something that corrupts God’s original creation.

Slide22:

Evil is not a “thing” Evil is not an “ability”. Evil is not a thing, evil is the corruption/deprivation of a thing. Rust on Car “sour” milk The law of entropy The devil has “good” attributes. A will, A mind, some form of body. Evil depends on Good/God for its existence.

Slide23:

Can you have rot without the apple? Can you have an apple without the rot?

Slide24:

The definition of evil is dependent on the foundation of what is Good. Evil is anything less than Perfect Obedience to the Great Commandment. [Rom 3:23 ESV] for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God , God is the standard of what IS.

Slide25:

[ Jhn 8:57 ESV] So the Jews said to him, "You are not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Abraham?" [ Jhn 8:58 ESV] Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am." [ Jhn 8:59 ESV] So they picked up stones to throw at him, but Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple.

Slide26:

Evil is not an ability, it is a disability. God is the STANDARD OF ABILITY (not you) God cannot “do evil”. God has no “power” to be or do “evil”.   God is Eternally , U nchanging , Good & Holy.

Slide27:

Jesus calls humans evil. [Mat 7:11 ESV] If you then, who are evil , know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!

Slide28:

In Heaven Christians will not be “able” to sin. You will truly have a “free will”.
