Presentation Description

Salvation and Baptism is often confused. Many people still believe their works contribute to their salvation. Many people believe baptism is a work that contributes to their salvation. In this sermon we look at Salvation which is a work of God. Baptism is an outward sign of an inward work.

[2Pe 1:10-12 ESV] 10 Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election , for if you practice these qualities you will never fall. 12 Therefore I intend always to remind you of these qualities, though you know them and are established in the truth that you have.

Slide3:

What are these things? [2Pe 1:2 NASB] Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord; [2Pe 1:3 NASB] seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness , through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. [2Pe 1:4 NASB] For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature , having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust.

Slide4:

Effort!! [ 2Pe 1:5-8 ESV] 5 For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge , 6 and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, 7 and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. 8 For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Slide5:

[ Phl 2:12-13 ESV] Work Out Your Salvation 12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.

Slide6:

If God has saved you from His Wrath, then you are new creature . You should have an ever present desire to know God/ Jesus Christ, more and more. You should have an ever present desire to find a way into your Bible.

Slide7:

You are not trying to be good to go to Heaven, You are trying to be good because Jesus made it possible for you to go to Heaven and secure the way for you.

Slide8:

In Paw Paw one would think the majority of protestant churches are Church of Christ, Methodists or Charismatic. IN The Big World, the majority of evangelical protestant churches believe in two essential doctrines.   Eternal Security Believers Baptism.

Slide9:

A few mentions on Eternal Security; Once saved Always Saved. Ephs 1: 13. And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, 14. who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession--to the praise of his glory.

Slide10:

Ephs 4: 30. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.   II Corinth 1: 21 . Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ . He anointed us, 22. set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.

Slide11:

Didn’t the Bible just say to work out our salvation? No Change, No Change. If you don’t care, . . . . . you do not belong to Jesus.

Slide12:

The sacrifice of Christ Saves Us. 1 John 1:7. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. 8. If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

Slide13:

Baptism translated to English means to immerse. Transliterate creates confusion & “holy” appearance.

Slide14:

Ordinance VS Sacrament an established rite or ceremony.

Slide15:

Ephs 2: 8. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God--9. not by works, so that no one can boast . The Acts Pattern. The beginning of the church age. A lot of wild stuff happened. On constant is revealed. They believed then they were baptized.

Slide16:

Don’t build a precedent from Acts 2:41. 41. Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day. Acts 8: 12. But when they believed Philip as he preached the good news of the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. Who then should be baptized? According to the established Bible pattern, only those who have trusted the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Savior.

Slide17:

Water baptism then, is NOT salvation, but obedience to a command by God concerning discipleship.

Slide18:

Water Immersion It’s Ordered by God. identifies the believer with the Godhead – Father, Son & Holy Spirit. “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” Matthew 28:19 (NIV)
