We all have ideas of what a hero should be like. I am sure we can all agree Sampson does not fit the mold. Yet, God used him. He can use us too.

Oh!, That was an Angel of God! Jdg 13:19 ESV - So Manoah took the young goat with the grain offering, and offered it on the rock to the LORD, to the one who works wonders, and Manoah and his wife were watching. Jdg 13:20 ESV - And when the flame went up toward heaven from the altar, the angel of the LORD went up in the flame of the altar. Now Manoah and his wife were watching, and they fell on their faces to the ground. Jdg 13:21 ESV - The angel of the LORD appeared no more to Manoah and to his wife. Then Manoah knew that he was the angel of the LORD. Jdg 13:22 ESV - And Manoah said to his wife, "We shall surely die, for we have seen God." Jdg 13:23 ESV - But his wife said to him, "If the LORD had meant to kill us, he would not have accepted a burnt offering and a grain offering at our hands, or shown us all these things, or now announced to us such things as these."

PowerPoint Presentation:

God began to stir Sampson. How ? By using Sampson’s sinful nature. Jdg 13:25 ESV - And the Spirit of the LORD began to stir him in Mahaneh-dan , between Zorah and Eshtaol .

PowerPoint Presentation:

Sampson wants Philistine wife. Jdg 14:1 ESV - Samson went down to Timnah , and at Timnah he saw one of the daughters of the Philistines. Jdg 14:2 ESV - Then he came up and told his father and mother, "I saw one of the daughters of the Philistines at Timnah . Now get her for me as my wife." Jdg 14:3 ESV - But his father and mother said to him, "Is there not a woman among the daughters of your relatives, or among all our people, that you must go to take a wife from the uncircumcised Philistines?" But Samson said to his father, "Get her for me, for she is right in my eyes."

PowerPoint Presentation:

God commanded Israel to NOT INTERMARRY. Deu 7:2 ESV - and when the LORD your God gives them over to you, and you defeat them, then you must devote them to complete destruction. You shall make no covenant with them and show no mercy to them. Deu 7:3 ESV - You shall not intermarry with them, giving your daughters to their sons or taking their daughters for your sons, Deu 7:4 ESV - for they would turn away your sons from following me, to serve other gods. Then the anger of the LORD would be kindled against you, and he would destroy you quickly.

PowerPoint Presentation:

Israel Disobeyed God. Jdg 3:5 ESV - So the people of Israel lived among the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites , the Hivites , and the Jebusites . Jdg 3:6 ESV - And their daughters they took to themselves for wives, and their own daughters they gave to their sons, and they served their gods. Jdg 3:7 ESV - And the people of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the LORD. They forgot the LORD their God and served the Baals and the Asheroth .

PowerPoint Presentation:

Jdg 14:4 ESV - His father and mother did not know that it was from the LORD, for he was seeking an opportunity against the Philistines. At that time the Philistines ruled over Israel. Jdg 14:5 ESV - Then Samson went down with his father and mother to Timnah , and they came to the vineyards of Timnah . And behold, a young lion came toward him roaring. Jdg 14:6 ESV - Then the Spirit of the LORD rushed upon him, and although he had nothing in his hand, he tore the lion in pieces as one tears a young goat. But he did not tell his father or his mother what he had done. Jdg 14:7 ESV - Then he went down and talked with the woman, and she was right in Samson's eyes.

PowerPoint Presentation:

Touching Dead Things Jdg 14:8 ESV - After some days he returned to take her. And he turned aside to see the carcass of the lion, and behold, there was a swarm of bees in the body of the lion, and honey. Jdg 14:9 ESV - He scraped it out into his hands and went on, eating as he went. And he came to his father and mother and gave some to them, and they ate. But he did not tell them that he had scraped the honey from the carcass of the lion. Double Trouble: Eating dessert from Road Kill.

PowerPoint Presentation:

The Wedding Feast & Riddle Jdg 14:10 -15 Jdg 14:18 ESV - And the men of the city said to him on the seventh day before the sun went down, "What is sweeter than honey? What is stronger than a lion?" And he said to them, "If you had not plowed with my heifer, you would not have found out my riddle."

PowerPoint Presentation:

Sampson’s first act as Judge: Jdg 14:19 ESV - And the Spirit of the LORD rushed upon him, and he went down to Ashkelon and struck down thirty men of the town and took their spoil and gave the garments to those who had told the riddle. In hot anger he went back to his father's house.

PowerPoint Presentation:

But wait, It gets more problematic! Jdg 15:1 ESV - After some days, at the time of wheat harvest, Samson went to visit his wife with a young goat. And he said, "I will go in to my wife in the chamber." But her father would not allow him to go in. Jdg 15:2 ESV - And her father said, "I really thought that you utterly hated her, so I gave her to your companion. Is not her younger sister more beautiful than she? Please take her instead."

PowerPoint Presentation:

Sampson’s Response Jdg 15:3 ESV - And Samson said to them, "This time I shall be innocent in regard to the Philistines, when I do them harm." Jdg 15:4 ESV - So Samson went and caught 300 foxes and took torches. And he turned them tail to tail and put a torch between each pair of tails. Jdg 15:5 ESV - And when he had set fire to the torches, he let the foxes go into the standing grain of the Philistines and set fire to the stacked grain and the standing grain, as well as the olive orchards.

PowerPoint Presentation:

Philistine’s response unjust. Jdg 15:6 ESV - Then the Philistines said, "Who has done this?" And they said, "Samson, the son-in-law of the Timnite , because he has taken his wife and given her to his companion." And the Philistines came up and burned her and her father with fire . Jdg 15:7 ESV - And Samson said to them, "If this is what you do, I swear I will be avenged on you, and after that I will quit." Jdg 15:8 ESV - And he struck them hip and thigh with a great blow, and he went down and stayed in the cleft of the rock of Etam . What does “Hip and thigh” mean? As best as I can tell, it’s a euphemism, for “He kicked their butts”. NASB translates “Ruthlessly” but word for word it is “Hip and Thigh”

PowerPoint Presentation:

Philistines gather a small army to go kill Sampson. Jdg 15:9 ESV - Then the Philistines came up and encamped in Judah and made a raid on Lehi . Jdg 15:10 ESV - And the men of Judah said, "Why have you come up against us?" They said, "We have come up to bind Samson, to do to him as he did to us."

PowerPoint Presentation:

Judah, Cowardly Response. Jdg 15:11 ESV - Then 3,000 men of Judah went down to the cleft of the rock of Etam , and said to Samson, "Do you not know that the Philistines are rulers over us? What then is this that you have done to us?" And he said to them, "As they did to me, so have I done to them." Jdg 15:12 ESV - And they said to him, "We have come down to bind you, that we may give you into the hands of the Philistines." And Samson said to them, "Swear to me that you will not attack me yourselves." Jdg 15:13 ESV - They said to him, "No; we will only bind you and give you into their hands. We will surely not kill you." So they bound him with two new ropes and brought him up from the rock.

PowerPoint Presentation:

Sampson Goes Superman, picks up dead thing and wipes out Philistine Army. Jdg 15:14 ESV - When he came to Lehi , the Philistines came shouting to meet him. Then the Spirit of the LORD rushed upon him, and the ropes that were on his arms became as flax that has caught fire, and his bonds melted off his hands. Jdg 15:15 ESV - And he found a fresh jawbone of a donkey, and put out his hand and took it, and with it he struck 1,000 men. Jdg 15:16 ESV - And Samson said, "With the jawbone of a donkey, heaps upon heaps, with the jawbone of a donkey have I struck down a thousand men." Jdg 15:17 ESV - As soon as he had finished speaking, he threw away the jawbone out of his hand. And that place was called Ramath-lehi .

PowerPoint Presentation:

Sampson’s Prayer of Faith ? Jdg 15:18 ESV - And he was very thirsty, and he called upon the LORD and said, "You have granted this great salvation by the hand of your servant, and shall I now die of thirst and fall into the hands of the uncircumcised?" Jdg 15:19 ESV - And God split open the hollow place that is at Lehi , and water came out from it. And when he drank, his spirit returned, and he revived. Therefore the name of it was called En- hakkore ; it is at Lehi to this day.

PowerPoint Presentation:

Philistines Gave Israel a little space from then on. Jdg 15:20 ESV - And he judged Israel in the days of the Philistines twenty years . Sampson; What Kind of Judge is that? Take courage, God can use you too!

Jesus’ entry was as King was also His entry as the final atoning sacrifice. Phl 2:6 NIV - Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; Phl 2:7 NIV - rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. Jesus’ Second & Final Entry as King & Perfect Judge! 2Th 1:5 ESV - This is evidence of the righteous judgment of God, that you may be considered worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are also suffering-- 2Th 1:6 ESV - since indeed God considers it just to repay with affliction those who afflict you, 2Th 1:7 ESV - and to grant relief to you who are afflicted as well as to us, when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels 2Th 1:8 ESV - in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. 2Th 1:9 ESV - They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might, 2Th 1:10 ESV - when he comes on that day to be glorified in his saints, and to be marveled at among all who have believed, because our testimony to you was believed.

PowerPoint Presentation:

Isa 45:21 NIV - Declare what is to be, present it-- let them take counsel together. Who foretold this long ago, who declared it from the distant past? Was it not I, the LORD? And there is no God apart from me, a righteous God and a Savior; there is none but me. Isa 45:22 NIV - "Turn to me and be saved, all you ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no other. Isa 45:23 NIV - By myself I have sworn, my mouth has uttered in all integrity a word that will not be revoked: Before me every knee will bow; by me every tongue will swear. Isa 45:24 NIV - They will say of me, 'In the LORD alone are deliverance and strength.' " All who have raged against him will come to him and be put to shame.
