Long ago in Aotearoa, there lived a young kiwi called Kapai. His home was a burrow in a large totara tree.
Slide 4:
He needed to hide from the Maori warriors because they loved to eat marvellously fat kiwis.
Slide 5:
Suddenly the earth started to shake all the animals o f the bush went crazy. The totara shook violently the tree Crashed to the ground.
Slide 6:
Kapai tried to ‘stop drop and roll’ but he was too fat! Kapai ran as fast as lightning until he fell in to a dangerous lake, it was as cold as ice. Kapai shivered and stumbled out of the freezing water.
Slide 7:
Tahi Taniwha was slithering around the lake looking for kai.He heard a giant splash, so he went to investigate He found a cold dripping wet kiwi shivering to death.
Slide 8:
Tahi taniwha changed his colour , Tahi pounced on to K apai . Kapai tried to run for his life. T ahi taniwha grabbed his wings He tore them off and munched them up .
Slide 9:
Poor Kapai was very sore, sad and tried to limp back into the bush he found a new home in the flax bushes.
Slide 10:
Eventually he regrew his wing however they grew back very small so he could not fly. So he became our famous flightless fat kiwi of Aotearoa.
