Slide2:
The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) are responsible for building the venues for the Games and the infrastructure to support them. They work alongside with the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) who are responsible for the preparation and staging off the Games. Together they are known as London 2012.
London 2012 set out in their bid to stage the Games a vision to ensure the benefits from the Games are spread throughout the UK. The Nations and Regions group was established as the conduit to help achieve this aim. Jeff Moore, emda’s Chief Executive is the Nations and Regions member for the East Midlands and he also chairs the East Midlands Steering Group for the 2012 Games. This group provides direction for the region in maximising the benefits of the Games. The East Midlands Steering Group is made up of the theme leads for sport (Sport England), tourism (East Midlands Tourism), legacy (Government Office for the East Midlands) and Business (emda) as well as a representative for local authorities.
Each of these theme leads has then developed its own groups in order to direct each area in maximising the benefits from the Games.
Slide3: Whilst the above occurs at a national and regional level it has been recognised that in order to achieve results it is vital to engage with leaders at a local level. The 5 County Sports Partnerships have established groups with county based representatives replicating the regional structure. These groups will decide which areas each county can benefit from the most and puts plans in place to maximise the opportunities.
The make up of all regional and county groups can be viewed in the useful documents section of this website.
