The Mentor & The Protégé :

The Mentor & The Protégé The Mentor is an experienced adviser and supporter: somebody usually older and more experienced, who advises and guides a younger, less experienced person. The Protégé is somebody under patronage of another: a young person who receives help, guidance, training, and support from somebody who is older and has more experience or influence.

Prov 22:6“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” :

Titus 2: 1 “But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine.”:

Titus 2: 1 “But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine. ” Titus 2:3-4 3 Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good . 4 Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure , to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God .

Titus 2: 6-8 :

Titus 2: 6-8 6 Similarly encourage the young men to be self-controlled . 7 In everything set them an example by doing what is good . In your teaching show integrity , seriousness 8 and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us.

Proverbs 1: 1-4 1 The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel; 2 for attaining wisdom and discipline ; for understanding words of insight ; 3 for acquiring a disciplined , and prudent life ; doing what is right and just and fair 4 for giving prudence to the simple , knowledge and discretion to the young .

Proverbs 1: 7-8 5 let the wise listen and add to their learning; and let the discerning get guidance – 6 for understanding proverbs and parables, the sayings and riddles of the wise. 7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge : but fools despise wisdom and instruction . 8 Listen my son, to your father’s instruction , and do not forsake your mother’s teaching …

In summary … The Mentor The Protégé Advises Guides Supports KEY: Experience. Motivation Obedience Desire to please God Submits Listens Receives KEY: Willing to learn. Motivation Desire to grow Desire to be used by God as an instrument of His Glory

Conclusion: 2 Tim 2:15 “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” God’s Word is the basis of your mentoring. :
