Objectives :Objectives Students will: identify the uppercase and lowercase forms of the letter s. print both forms of the letter s. match the letter s to the sound /s/. Listen for initial /s/.


Phonemic Awareness: Phoneme Identity :Phonemic Awareness: Phoneme Identity Listen to the following word pairs. Clap if you hear two words that start with the same sound.


Slide 4:sun/sock sail/ hat soap/ sink tools/ sit soup/sandwich


Letter Recognition :Letter Recognition Print S and s on the board. Explain that s comes in two sizes, uppercase/big and lowercase/small. Point to each letter and name it. Have students repeat after me.


Handwriting :Handwriting Model how to write S and s on the handwriting board. Name the strokes as I write. Have students finger-trace the letter shapes on their desk. Distribute handwriting practice pages for the letter Ss.


Phonics :Phonics Display the alphabet card for Ss. The letter s stands for the /s/ sound you hear in sun. What are some other words that begin with the /s/ sound? Read the rhyme “I Like the Sun”.


Phonics Continued :Phonics Continued I Like the Sun I like the sun. I like the sea. I like sailboats. I like me!


Phonics Continued :Phonics Continued Model placing a self-stick note under the S in sun. Have students come up to the chart, and place self-stick notes under other words in the rhyme that begin with Ss.


Reading :Reading Use the book Ss Summer. Reinforce letter recognition for letter Ss. Have students find partner letters Ss on the cover, and s at the beginning of words in the book.
