Premium member Presentation Transcript 1970 Mustang Convertible : 1970 Mustang Convertible In 1970 there were 7673 Mustang Convertibles built. This one began life as: Dark Metallic Ivy Green Ginger vinyl interior 302 - 2V V-8 with 220hp Power Steering As she was in 1986 Slide 2: I bought the car in 1986 from Koon’s Pontiac in Manassas VA, just before I was going into the Navy in 1986. Paid $2500 Tampa after Boot camp Mom & Dad drove the car down for me after boot camp. 2006 : 2006 Spent some time at Gordon’s Mustang. Remind me not to do that again. After years if traveling up and down the east coast and sitting rusting away from house to house for 10 years. It’s time for some TLC. Gordon’s did some work on the inner rocker panels but mainly drained my bank account with exploratory crap, charges for cleaning their damned floors, and pumping up flat tires : Gordon’s did some work on the inner rocker panels but mainly drained my bank account with exploratory crap, charges for cleaning their damned floors, and pumping up flat tires Hint: Don't go to Gordon’s Mustang Restoration shop Slide 5: Torque boxes and inner rocker panels When I ran out of money, Gordon’s dropped my car off in 2 seconds flat, in the rain. Nothing like bare metal getting rained on. Slide 6: Started stripping the car myself. Heck I can save lots of money that way Slide 7: Interior comes out, not too bad under the dash Some minor rust spots around the windshield Slide 8: Pulled the engine and transmission Bet I can break this down myself. It can’t get any worse. Slide 9: Engine is out, looks pretty messy in there. I had a sandblasting company lined up. But it turns out they didn’t want my money, so I’ll do that myself too. Slide 10: Gonna need a big hammer to get those pistons out. Slide 11: Original 3 speed will be replaced with a 5 speed world class T5 Slide 12: Bob the Builder helping out deconstruction Slide 13: Original clutch gets new Superior Clutch from Modern Driveline. Clutch linkage will be replaced by a cable clutch Merry Christmas 2007 : I figured I’d let professionals rebuild the engine for L&L Auto Machine shop, Douglasville, GA 302, bored 20 over H/O Cam, 460 lift, 268 Duration Merry Christmas 2007 Slide 15: Christmas present from PawPaw H/O Water pump from Summit Gloss blacked the pullies and mounts. Need to replace valve covers, I cracked one! DOH!! Slide 16: Ebay Rocks! Rebuilt Edelbrock 600 CFM card for $130 Nuttn like raw HP, screw linear acceleration!! Slide 17: 2008 is the year of sandblasting. 200 hours or so of sandblasting and engine compartment is done. Slide 18: This is the worst part of the cancer on the car. Gonna learn to weld! More sand blasting. Slide 19: New valve covers and matching air cleaner. Mustangs Unlimited wanted $65 for the air cleaner .. Summit wanted $35, 0$ shipping. Did I have a choice? Happy Birthday – new valve covers & Air cleaner Slide 20: Ain’t that purdy!
