TCC4 Handling equipment TCC4 gallery is equipped with a radiation hard underslung crane. The very limited space and safety aspects make the crane quite complicated. Main parameters: Maxi working load of the main hoist: 7.5 T corresponding to the weight of the heaviest CERN shielding blocks Maxi working load of the auxiliary hoist: 5 T Theoretical positioning precision: +/- 2.5 mm Slope: 5.66 % (identical to the beam slope and TCC4 floor) Stainless steel rails and racks One video camera fixed on the main hoist chariot

Horn exchange installation sequences: 

Horn exchange installation sequences 1- The spare horn is brought to the junction chamber, picked up by the crane and installed on the adjustable feet (positioning tolerance: r = 50 mm) 2- The horn alignment can be checked, if necessary, at this stage. Both horns are supposed to be identical to +/- 0.5 mm tolerances. 3- The shielding is re-installed, except for the block(s) in front the FCS. 4- From the passageway, slide stripline 1 upstream by 100 mm and fine adjust to the exact position of the horn. 5- The five nuts of the FCS are tightened. 6- The shielding blocks are placed in position in front of the FCS . 7- In the trench, outside the shielding the link section is reinstalled. 8- The cooling water flexible tube is re-connected

Conclusions: 

Conclusions Even if… - Positioning tolerances of the crane conform to the technical specifications - All horn tolerances are respected - Fast coupling system is now much more easy to operate (new design) - Fine adjustment of the strip-line can be done from the passageway (new design) … the exchange of the horn remains a major operation. The procedure must be carefully prepared and fully tested before the beam starts.     Outstanding: - Trailing hoses (water cooling + inert gas) - Final shielding configuration - Automatic clamping tool for shielding blocks - Trailer design
