Data collection assistance was provided by research interns from Webster University (St. Louis), as well as sports business graduate students from the DeVos School of Sport Business at the University of Central Florida. Fan Survey: Fan Survey Demographic InformationSlide6: Florida 21.8% Pennsylvania 10.4% New York 7.9% Michigan 6.9% California 5.6% Minnesota 5% Kentucky, Ohio, Alabama, Oklahoma, Texas, Georgia and Maryland 17.3% Given the location of the event, it is not surprising to see more Floridians in attendance than residents of other states. The fact that the number of Pennsylvanians outnumbered the Floridians at the Opening Ceremony may be due to two factors: An over sampling of student-athletes from Pennsylvania. Floridians were not as apt to attend the Opening Ceremonies because the trip to Universal Studios held less of a ‘novelty effect’ for them, given their proximity to the venue. Though still for these categories there was a large degree of unawareness compared to the Division I Championships analyzed thus far this year. There was a large degree of unawareness for these categories compared to Division I Championships analyzed this year (in most cases the NCAA Info Zone and Beyond the Game are held at the championship venue which makes them easier to access). Comments Dot Richardson’s presentation was the audiences’ favorite portion of the Opening Ceremonies. The video presentation and Bonnie Bernstein also received high approval scores. The biggest issue with the concert (especially among older event attendees) was the volume of the music being too loud.Looking ahead: Looking ahead Regarding the last question on the Opening Ceremony survey regarding future NCAA Championships/Festivals: 71.2% of respondents wanted to attend a similar OC event. 9.3% wanted a less formal gathering of student-athletes, coaches, friends and fans. 5.4% wanted fewer scheduled activities to allow for more free time. 14.1% did not respond to this question.
