Test-Taking Strategies:

Test-Taking Strategies For Language Arts Tests

Look at the questions BEFORE you read …:

Know WHAT you’re reading for BEFORE you read! Look at the questions BEFORE you read …

Circle key words …:

Watch out for tricky words! Circle key words …

Now that you know what you’re looking for, READ!:

Take your time! There is no rush to finish! Enjoy the stories … most of them are pretty good! Now that you know what you’re looking for, READ!

When you’re done reading, to back to the questions …:

Read each one again now that you are familiar with the story. When you’re done reading, to back to the questions …

Check the four possible answers.:

One of them is the RIGHT answer. Can you eliminate any of them? Check the four possible answers.

If you’re not certain what the right answer is …:

Go back to the story and reread to see if you missed anything. If it’s REALLY hard, mark it and move on to the next question. If you’re not certain what the right answer is …

Fill in the correct bubble only when you know you’ve got the right answer.:

Messy answer sheets don’t get scored correctly, so don’t fill in ANY bubble until you are CERTAIN. Fill in the correct bubble only when you know you’ve got the right answer .

Move on to the next question.:

And repeat the whole process again! Move on to the next question.

REMEMBER: Answer the EASY questions FIRST.:

Don’t get stuck on a problem and waste time. Mark and Move On to the next one. The more easy ones you solve, the more confident you’ll feel. Then you’ll be ready to face the harder ones! REMEMBER: Answer the EASY questions FIRST.

LAST NOTE: This is a test of what YOU know.:

Keep your eyes on your own test. Do not ASK your neighbor for help. There are 10 different versions of the test, so your neighbor’s question #24 is probably different than yours … so copying answers is a BAD idea. LAST NOTE: This is a test of what YOU know.
