1st Journal (Sept 3, 2004 – Oct 15, 2004) My time with my BRIDGE partner:

1st Journal (Sept 3, 2004 – Oct 15, 2004) My time with my BRIDGE partner Yi Tak (Kenas)Chow Hong Kong

1st meeting….:

1st meeting…. Date: Sept 4, 2004 (Saturday) Time: 9:00am – 2:00pm Venue: Wisconsin Room, Red Gym Indeed when I first received the email from BRIDGE, saying that I could join this program, I had mixed feeling. On one hand, I was very excited since I had joined a similar program before and I honestly had a wonderful experience; on the other hand, it seems that there are a lot of commitment…… This morning was my first time to meet my BRIDGE partner, Catherine Ann Creighton, and I was so glad that I didn’t quit this program. Catherine was really nice and sweet.

Slide3:

I cannot say that we really have a lot in common, but she was just so nice to talk to. I think, the biggest common to us is that both of us are arts type of people ---- NO MATH &SCIENCE. I found it cool to have an artistic friend. I am looking forward to hanging out with her and knowing (exploring?!) more about her in the near future.

2nd Meeting….:

2nd Meeting…. Date: Sept 16, 2004 (Thursday) Time: 6:00pm – 7:00pm Venue: Starbucks, State Street Haven’t seen Catherine for 2 weeks, and today we had a short chatting time in Starbucks. Even though we were all so busy with school works, it’s really relaxing to chat with Catherine this evening. We sat on those cozy sofa in Starbucks and talked a lot. Topics included politics, Sept 11, coming presidential election, currency exchange rate, shopping malls and outlets, life in Madison, housing… We caught up a little bit about each other’s recent life, and both of us learned more about each other’s country.

Slide5:

Matt, Catherine’s boyfriend, came later to join us for 15 minutes, and we found out that Matt’s BRIDGE partner, Geoffrey, is my classmate in English class. Catherine suggested that four of us can hang out together sometimes. Sounds really good! Matt came and joined us

3rd meeting….:

3rd meeting…. Date: Sept 23, 2004 (Thursday) Time: 8:00pm – 9:30pm Venue: Liz Waters Tonight was the first BRIDGE group event. We had a bonfire near Liz Waters. It’s nice to see so many friends who i met in the BRIDGE welcome event again. We had some smores tonight. Yummy! Moreover, I took some pictures with Catherine, Matt, and Geoffrey. It was fun! But, I felt so bad that I forgot my camera!

4th meeting….:

Date: Oct 14, 2004 (Thursday) Time: 6:15pm – 7:30pm Venue: Room 240, Union South Tonight, I and Catherine went to “Taste of Korea”. Before we went there, Catherine told me that she knew nothing about Korea, so both of us were pretty excited about going to the “Taste of Korea”. This event was surprisingly well-organized, and I did have a great time there. I and Catherine sat at a table near to the stage, hoping to watch the presentation more clearly. The presentation gave us some brief ideas about Korea and told us something about Korea pop culture (Korean Entertainers). Those power point slides were interesting. 4th meeting….

Slide8:

Apart from power point presentation, there was also a short drama called The Dangun Story. It was a neat play that told us about how Korea started. Those actors were so funny. Moreover, we saw a Taekwondo demonstration, and listened to a Korean percussion performance. Both Catherine and I found all those performances new and we enjoyed them a lot.

Slide9:

The climax of tonight was the meal time. We tried two kind of food. They were Ssam and Jopchae. Ssam is a Korean style lettuce wraps. We put rice, meat and Korean soybean paste on top of a piece of lettuce, wrapped it and put the whole thing into the mouth. The soybean paste was pretty spicy and Catherine didn’t dare to put any paste on her second wrap again… haha! For Jopchae, it is a Korean mixed noodles. It was delicious too. After meal, we had a chance to try some Korean gum. It has a flower flavor. It tasted soooo weird! Even though I and Catherine didn’t talk much tonight (we mainly paid attention to the presentation and performances, we all thought that we had a great time. Happy and enjoyable!
