How SchoolRooms Began Collaboration with INFOhio Idea to take the Rooms platform and build portal and resources for K-12 community Other partners joined in: LNOCA Kent State University SLIS and IAKM Shaker Heights City School District Decision to Build 3 Pilot Rooms at Each Grade Level Earth Science U.S. History Parent’s Guide

The Pilot (2005): 

The Pilot (2005) Pilot Occurred in Shaker Heights City District near Cleveland for pilot Rooms Usability Study with Kent State University IAKM Two K-4 elementary schools, one 5th & 6th grade, one middle school, one high school Grades 2,4,5,6,8,9,10 20+ teachers 40 classes Approximately 700 – 1000 students Parent, Teacher and Librarian Focus Groups

What We Learned Statistics: 88% of students said they would use SchoolRooms again for homework 51% said they preferred it to Google or Yahoo Quotes: “This is better than Google because in Google you get lots of stuff you don’t need.” (student) “SchoolRooms is a great tool for new(er) teachers because it provides resources that are aligned to the curriculum.” (teacher) “SirsiDynix is offering us the opportunity to serve our patrons with accurate information that meets their immediate needs. The information world is rapidly changing. SchoolRooms is the first step in the direction of seamless 24x7 services to patrons.” (librarian)

What’s Next: 

What’s Next INFOhio and SirsiDynix work together in maintaining SchoolRooms content for all SirsiDynix customers. Phase 1 Deployment with Kalida and Shaker Heights (2006-07). INFOhio and SirsiDynix work together regarding technical issues for deployment of SchoolRooms for 2007-08. INFOhio develops a Toolkit for SchoolRooms and marketing materials for 2007-08; information regarding cost for schools automated via INFOhio vs. stand-alone soon to come.
