Premium member Presentation Transcript KEYNOTE ADDRESS: KEYNOTE ADDRESS ICT4D Southern Luzon Conference November 24, 2004 Los Baños, Laguna Learning from Information and Communications Technology for Development (ICT4D) Research to Enhance Policymaking (Philippines) : Learning from Information and Communications Technology for Development (ICT4D) Research to Enhance Policymaking (Philippines) Project Objective: Project Objective To identify the transformational impact of ICT on the Philippine society, and from the learning distilled from the different ICT4D projects undertaken, transform these learning into ICT policies and actions. ICT4D Definition: ICT4D Definition ICT4D is the use of ICT for sustainable development towards popular empowerment ICT includes digital and interactive technologies as well as technologies which provide for interfaces between traditional and new interactive technologies. Grants Programme: Grants Programme The Project will commission a series of research studies to examine whether, how and to what extent, ICT4D projects in the country are transforming Philippine society. Research proposals may be invited on a competitive or commissioned basis. Research Themes: Research Themes The studies will be based on the following broad themes: Infrastructure/Access Social Services/Education Political/Governance/Empowerment Economic/Livelihood ICT4D Inventory: ICT4D Inventory An inventory of ICT4D projects will be undertaken to determine what ICT4D projects have been done or are ongoing in the country. The results of the inventory will be processed to identify issues, gaps, learnings and research themes. Results will be used as inputs in the development of a Philippine ICT4D agenda, in general, and an ICT4D research agenda, in particular. ICT4D Conference Series: ICT4D Conference Series Initially, there is one conference in each of the island groups: Cagayan de Oro (Mindanao) Cebu (Visayas) Baguio City (Northern Luzon) Los Baños (Southern Luzon) ICT4D Conference Series: ICT4D Conference Series The conference is expected to bring stakeholders, practitioners and advocates of ICT4D initiatives in the country. The conference serves as a venue for disseminating and sharing information on existing ICT4D projects and in getting stakeholders’ inputs in the formulation of a Philippine ICT4D agenda.
