Slide 49: 49 When you apply pressure to your brake pedal, this is what happens: Pressure forces brake fluid to engage a series of mechanisms that push Brake pad onto the disc rotor (which is attached to the wheel assembly), bringing your car to a stop. The brake pad is mounted to a brake caliper, which is the part that applies and releases the brake pads from the disc rotor.
