Karana and the girls in her tribe also wore jewelry made out of bone, wood, stone, or shell. They used red or black body paints to decorate their bodies and prevent sunburn. Fashion: Fashion Most people carried pouches or tobacco bags. Hairpins were made of animal bones Hairpins were used to hold the Chumash ‘s long hair in place. Fashion: Fashion Karana and the other girls wore fiber and deerskin skirts. The mild weather meant that elaborate clothing was not necessary. Karana wore bird skin capes and she wore woven fiber headbands, basket caps, cotton scarves. They also wore cotton shirts, leather belts, breechcloth [after European contact]. Fashion: Fashion Karana and other girls wore Tule sandles , leather moccasins andthey wore woven hats. The Chumash Indians wore shoes that were made of stuff like animal skin and some were made woven twigs. They wore so much shoes I have no idea. WILD LIFE: WILD LIFE Otter are the largest in the weasel family. Otter are hunted for soft coats. There are 13 types of otter. WILD LIFE: WILD LIFE Otter live in Shallow coastal waters of the northern Pacific. Otter eat sea urchins, abalone, mussels, clams, crabs, snails and about 40 other marine species . Otter live up to 15 years old.Slide8: The sea otter is the largest member of the weasel family. Otter have good fur for coats because their fur is really soft. Sea otter use rocks to open food. Then the Aleuts got jealous of Karana’s family and decided to kill everyone who lived on the island and so they did accept for Karana and every other girl on the island who where all watching from a rock for safety.
