A graphic organizer is a visual frame used to represent and organize information, “a diagram showing how concepts are related” (McKenna & Robinson, 1997, p.117). Types of graphic organizers: Sequential, Compare-contrast, Relational, Classification, Concept development, and Evaluation organizers

Demonstrating How to Use a Graphic Organizer (1) : 

Demonstrating How to Use a Graphic Organizer (1) A classification organizer for matrix will be used for this activity. < Example> My favorite sport

Demonstrating How to Use a Graphic Organizer (2) : 

Demonstrating How to Use a Graphic Organizer (2) You can write sentences which present the result based on the chart. <Example> • 5 girls and 4 boys like baseball best. • The favorite sport of both girls and boys is basketball.

Practice (1) : 

Practice (1) Form a small group of 5. There will be 4 groups, which makes the total number of students 20. Ask the month of birth of each group member. Make a chart that shows the number of people in your group who were born in each month.

Practice (2) : 

Practice (2) After finishing with your group, each of you form another group of 4 with one member from each group. Ask one another how many people in your first group were born in each month. Make a new chart that shows the numbers of people in each of the original 4 groups who were born in each month.

Practice (3) : 

Practice (3) Return to the original group of 5. Based on the second chart, write 5 sentences that let others know the result. Share with class.

Review Graphic organizers present ideas visually (Diaz-Rico, 2008, p.118). Classification organizers are used to create hierarchies, matrixes, or other concept relations that show specific structures (Diaz-Rico, 2008, p.121).
