MELISA aims at establishing the infrastructure to support the virtual value chain for sports events broadcasting over wireless and digital television networks, by offering valuable, revenue building services over a variety of additional networks including 3rd Generation Mobile Telephony. Business Opportunity: Business Opportunity MELISA represents a realistic future business opportunity for ERT SA once plans for national Switchover get under way and ERT SA is required to develop interactive television services. Public broadcasters have been known to be requested by governments to help in the switchover drive and on occasion step in to correct market failures, especially in launching high economic risk services. MELISA features may be implemented with no pressure for immediate financial results, for the sake of launching a rich bundle of services. To accomplish its objectives-I: To accomplish its objectives-I MELISA: Developed authoring tools for production, encoding and playback of rich interactive multimedia content in MPEG-4 for a variety of devices over wireless and digital television networks. Developed tools for enabling the production and placement of dynamic promotion of sports related and other products utilizing in full the enhancements to be provided by MELISA. To accomplish its objectives-II: To accomplish its objectives-II MELISA: Developed the tools and infrastructure to support intelligent real time game statistics and enhancements by gathering information from various sources, both historical and during the events. Developed the infrastructure to support real time and play-by-play betting services with its associated e-commerce transaction engine. Demonstrated the validity of the proposed service in field trials of specific usage scenarios, focusing on usability and perceived quality of service. To accomplish its objectives-III: To accomplish its objectives-III MELISA: Used open standards for the new media content, based on MPEG-4, as well as the necessary metadata, based on MPEG-7. The overall publishing chain took into consideration consumer protection and privacy on the basis of the principles introduced by the emerging MPEG-21 standard. UP (Ubiquitous Personalized )-TV : UP (Ubiquitous Personalized )-TV The research questions targeted in this project focus on: the identification of media content that has to be recorded, the placement of those media assets onto single and networked media servers as well as the organisation of efficient and comfortable access to these assets. Development of a TV Anytime server system that allows to support a scalable number of users, ranging from a cost-efficient consumer system to a large scale server system. Based on a general service platform, two applica-tion scenarios that integrate TV Anytime scenarios and web applications are implemented and tested. Slide38: UP-TV content metadata model Red lines: MPEG-7 Descriptors used, Green lines: TVA entities adopted, Blue lines: MPEG-7 Descriptors used Strategy: Strategy Strategy is the art of creating value*. In a competitive environment, strategy is no longer a matter of positioning a fixed set of activities along a value chain. Their focus of strategic analysis is not the company or even the industry but the value – creating system itself, within which different economic actors – supplier, business partners, allies, customers – work together to co-produce value. Their key strategic task is the reconfiguration of roles and relationships among the constellation of actors in order to mobilize the creation of value in new forms and by new players. *Normann & Ramirez (1994)Current Status: Current Status The procurement of equipment required for Photographs, audio archives, film and video Restoration, Digitization, Annotation & Retrieval Processes is underway.Slide47: The procurement of equipment required for Photographs, audio archives, film and video Restoration, Digitization, Annotation & Retrieval Processes is underway.Slide48: The procurement of equipment required for Photographs, audio archives, film and video Restoration, Digitization, Annotation & Retrieval Processes is underway.Experiences & Difficulties: Experiences & Difficulties Rights Management (“a delicate issue”) Fear of new ( not conventional ) Not clear definition on the purpose of the Archive Not all people consider the importance of metadata The delay in the Digital SwitchoverThank you very muchfor your attention.Dvafeas@ert.gr: Thank you very much for your attention.
