Moorland Childcare Centre All children have access to a snack and drinks during the early years education sessions and these are included in the fees. We promote a healthy eating policy and the snack menu is available for parents to see at the Centre. Lunch can be provided and consists of freshly prepared and cooked two course meals, using local organic produce wherever possible. A 'high tea' is also available at 5pm. Sample menus are available. Menus are designed to be attractive, well-balanced and to fulfil the dietary requirements of young children. Special diets (e.g. vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free) can be accommodated. Sourced from Riverford and other local suppliers

Village Hall: 

Village Hall Has recently spent £36,000 equipping the hall to cater for functions of up to 100 people. To celebrate the completion a meal cooked by the Royal Oak team using local produce is being prepared for 100 local guests on 25th November. The Committee promotes the use of local caterers to hirers.

Old School Centre: 

Old School Centre Committee promotes local suppliers to course organisers and room hirers Drinks and snacks for coffee bar sourced from village shops. Houses the Playgroup who utilise local suppliers for their meals and snacks.

Parish Council: 

Parish Council Parish Council fully supports all local business, especially those which themselves promote local trade. 2003 Local Plan specifically identifies: Promotion of the range of shops and services to residents and visitors; consider a ‘Welcome to South Brent’ promotion Ensure local firms are used, wherever practical, for parish projects Annual Parish Dinner is held each year at a restaurant within the Parish. Parish Council is acting as the lead body for ‘Best Local Food Awards’ 2005

Markets & Festivals The Parish Council feels it is more beneficial and sustainable for our community that we promote the sale of local produce through existing and new retail outlets in the village, because: Local shops are generally available 6 days a week to all residents Small shops might be unable to cope with excessive demand on the single day/morning of a market. Shops have to meet the overheads of rates, insurance, staff costs etc which give market stalls an unreasonable advantage. Most retailers and suppliers want steady, ongoing sales rather than short bursts of activity.
