Slide6: 홉스 봄(E.J. Hobsbawm)은 20세기 사회를 극단(extremes)이라는 용어로 담아내었다. 만일 물질문명의 차원에서 20세기를 바라본다면 기계라는 용어가 그 정점에 위치할 것이다. 20세기의 디자인은 이러한 기계의 영향력을 바탕으로 정의되고 소통되었다. 이제 21세기의 시작점에서 우리는 사회, 청치, 문화, 기술의 급격한 변화를 목격하고 있다. 이러한 변화는 우리 사회를 조직하는 패러다임의 전환으로 이어지고 있으며, 이 흐름에 디자인 또한 예외일 수 없다.
이러한 맥락 속에서 우리는 ICSID 2001 SEOUL, 2001 SEOUL designer’s Charter를 통해 지나간 세기를 성찰하고, 새로운 세기에서 디자인의 의미와 영역뿐 아니라 디자이너의 역할, 사명, 윤리 등에 대한 코드를 마련하여 공표하고자 한다. 이를 통해 사회 내에서 전문영역으로서의 디자인과 디자이너의 위치를 확인하고 새로운 문화의 세기를 대비하고자 한다. Background of the Charter Justification
