Mark 13:32-37 The Necessity for Watchfulness

Slide 2:

32 “But of that day or that hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 33 Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time will come. 34 It is like a man going on a journey, when he leaves home and puts his servants in charge, each with his work, and commands the doorkeeper to be on the watch. 35 Watch therefore—for you do not know when the master of the house will come, in the evening, or at midnight, or at cockcrow, or in the morning— 36 lest he come suddenly and find you asleep. 37 And what I say to you I say to all: Watch.”

Slide 3:

These verses conclude Jesus discourse on the end times and the destruction of the temple. To add to the need to be vigilant Jesus tells the parable of a man going on a journey. The man is himself who after his resurrection ascended into heaven. We are left behind to care for his church, each other, and to live out our trial period in this temporal world. At some point each of us will die and hopefully we will join him in heaven. God has given us the tools, the skills, the abilities, to be willing servants of him who loved us all the way to the cross and to pay for us a debt which we could never repay on our own.
