Mark 10:32-34 For A Third Time Jesus Foretells His Death and Resurrection

Slide 2:

32 And they were on the road, going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking ahead of them; and they were amazed, and those who followed were afraid. And taking the twelve again, He began to tell them what was to happen to Him, 33 saying, “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man will be delivered to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn Him to death, and deliver Him to the Gentiles; 34 and they will mock him, and spit upon Him, and scourge Him, and kill Him; and after three days He will rise.” The Holy Bible : Revised Standard Version Second Catholic edition (2006), with the ecclesiastical approval of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, Thomas Nelson Publishing for Ignatius Press.

Slide 3:

Each time Jesus predicts His death and resurrection (8:31; 9:30–32; 10:32–34) He follows it with a teaching on discipleship (8:32–38; 9:35–37; 10:35–45). Discipleship is following a master and surrendering to the masters will. Jesus follows the Father and surrenders to the Father’s will. Demonstrating that surrender Jesus is making His final trip to Jerusalem, He knows full well that He is on His way to His earthly death. The Twelve were shocked by His prediction because, thinking in human terms, they would not make the trip, as Jesus was doing, if they anticipated that it would lead to their death. Jesus has again revealed God’s plan. God will hand Him over to the Jewish leaders, who, in turn, will hand Him over to the Gentiles (the Roman authorities) and He will die and rise to new life in 3 days.
