The Widow with the Two Coins :The Widow with the Two Coins She was poor in the material items of this world but rich in the ways of the next
Widows & Orphans :Widows & Orphans The widow who donated her last two coins to the temple treasury is a dramatic story of total faith in many ways like that of the widow of Zarephath.
We often see contrasting people used in the Bible to reveal the truth of the situation at hand.
The people who were contributing from their wealth were looking for honor or recognition for their gifts, they were happy to build up treasure in this world, and forgot about the next.
Our widow was now the poorest person in Jerusalem but she was rich in faith.
Faith :Faith Our widow’s faith did not go unnoticed by the most important person in Jerusalem, Jesus.
Those who contributed from their wealth were noticed by their friends but our widow was noticed by God.
Her giving was a sign of complete abandonment to God. If her faith wasn’t the kind of burning flame ignited by the Holy Spirit she would not have offered her two small coins.
The size of the gift is meaningless; what really matters is the intention of the giver.
12:41-44 The Poor Widow’s Contribution :12:41-44 The Poor Widow’s Contribution In the Lord’s eyes, this poor widow gave more than all the others put together, although her gift was by far the smallest.
A gift given grudgingly or for recognition loses its value.
When you give, remember that gifts of any size are pleasing to God when they are given out of gratitude and in a spirit of generosity.
Your gift might not be money but might be time and talent instead.
Motivation :Motivation If it is time and talent then give it in a spirit of generosity.
We can thank our widow because she provided us with an invaluable lesson in God’s view point.
What was important to the Lord wasn’t the amount of the gift but what was in the heart of the giver.
It is what is in your heart, not what is in your hand, that will you build an intimacy with God.
