Wisdom Over Power :
Wisdom Over Power The queen of Sheba valued wisdom over power and went to visit the wisest person of her time, Solomon.
She herself was a gifted intellectual and displayed that excellence in her business and diplomatic decision making. She was also a humble person who knew that she did not possess all that wisdom had to offer.
Sheba was located 1500 miles from Jerusalem on the southwestern tip of Arabia and bordered the Red Sea.
Sheba, Arabia :
Sheba, Arabia In today’s world Sheba would be located in the country of Yemen
Slide 4:
Sheba was famous for their spices and perfumes.
Traders from far off countries would often visit Sheba and with them would certainly come the stories about Israel’s wise king Solomon.
She would have heard the story of how Solomon suggested that a baby be cut in half and each half be given to each woman who claimed to be the child’s biological mother.
He knew the true biological mother would give up her rights so that the child would be allowed to live.
She reasoned that he was truly a wise man.
As the stories of his wisdom came her way she became curious and wanted to be “schooled” in his form of wisdom, so she decided it was time to take a trip to Jerusalem.
Slide 5:
She assembled a caravan for the journey which contained spices and perfumes of great value and 9,000 pounds of gold.
She spent her time in Jerusalem trying to find answers to the many every day practical problems which faced her as a queen and her country as a whole.
Solomon was apparently able to answer the questions to her satisfaction.
When she left Jerusalem she left these gifts items behind as Solomon’s reward.
Returning to her country she brought the gift of wisdom.
Slide 6:
Wisdom was a gift of greater value than ones given to Solomon.
Are you like the queen of Sheba?
Do you have unanswered question about your life, your goals, your desires?
The queen of Sheba needed to go on a 3,000 mile round trip, your church is a lot closer isn’t it?
Prayer is the answer isn’t it? “In that day you will ask nothing of me. Truly, truly, I say to you, if you ask anything of the Father, he will give it to you in my name. (John 16:23)
Even if you don’t get an immediate answer to your prayer you will gain the inner peace that comes with speaking with the Father of all mercies and love, about your wants and needs.
