Stress is essential but it should be moderate, because moderate stress will act as a motivational factor. WHAT IS STRESS? Slide 3: Physical stress Physical stress refers to a physical reaction of the body to various situations. Emotional stress Emotional stress usually occurs when people consider situations difficult or unable to manage. TYPES OF STRESS Stress @ work place : Stress @ work place Slide 5: Work stress is a imbalance between capability and demand; when the failure to meet the demand is leads to work stress. High job demands + Low job control + Poor job Support = Stress Stress @ work place is unavoidable, due to the demand of contemporary work environment. Stress perceived as acceptable by an individual, because it keeps workers alert, motivated. STRESS@WORK PLACE Slide 6: EFFECTS OF WORK STRESS On individuals:- Under stress, people difficult to maintain healthy balance b/w work and non-work life. They may engage in unhealthy activities like smoking, drinking. On organization:- Unhealthy organization do not get the best from their workers, this may effect on the performance of the company in the competitive market. Solving work stress problems:- : Solving work stress problems:- Work redesign It focus on demands, knowledge and abilities, support and control. Ergonomics & environmental design Management development Work stress can be effectively managed by applying risk management approach Slide 8: Essential steps in Risk management Assessment of risk Design action plan to reduce the risk of work stress Implementation of action plan Its evaluation Learning and further actions based on results of that evaluation. Slide 9: RISK MANAGEMENT CYCLE Slide 10: To study the various factors influencing the individual to be under stress To survey and understand the level of stress and to see if it is beyond the permissible limits To identify the dominant factor and back up the stress management styles To know how to motivate the employees to overcome the stress OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY Slide 11: Introduce people management training schemes for supervisors, allow interaction among the employees, encourage co-operation and team work. The management should help the employees to be innovative and creative in fulfilling the tasks. Management has to help the employees for better planning. Introduce flexi-time, job-sharing, job re-design. SUGGESTIONS Slide 12: Stress is not a sickness to run away from. Stress is a medicine to the individual to perform better.
