People are living longer , life expectancy is steadily rising & fertility decliningSlide 9: With the population15-59 yrs group touching down to 50% in 2011, high infant mortality in 0-6 yr group, high mortality rate of expectant young mothers during delivery, lower fertility rate but overall life expectancy going plus 70 years, India’s elderly population is on fast track & is already at 10%+ of total population.Electoral strength of elderly will go on increasing in coming years.Slide 10: Present Indian elderly population is 121+(2011) Millions. 33% of elderly population is below poverty line another 33% is just above poverty line, only 25% of elderly population is literate. over 50% of literate elderly are retireesSlide 11: To be able to influence the Government decisions we have to keep two things in mind. 1. Our Political clan understands only the language of vote bank & 2.
