Today, mainstream usage of “hacker” mostly refers to computer criminals, due to the mass media usage of the word since the 1980s. How can you get hacked? It’s relatively easy to be in this predicament if you are running your computer without antivirus software. An innocent and accidental visit to a malicious website can flood your computer with unwanted malware. Clicking on an email attachment from an unknown source can expose your computer to a virus. Downloading a file with a perfectly harmless title can be an attacker’s way of invading your computer. When you install antivirus software, you eliminate your computer’s risk of being attacked in this way.
