What about Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs)? Chronic physical conditions that affect the tendons, ligaments, muscles, joints, nerves, and spinal discs. Can result in pain and discomfort, diminished strength, endurance, and flexibility. Seen everywhere around campus - labs, offices, Stores, resident halls, plant operations, etc.

Signs and Symptoms of MSDs: 

Signs and Symptoms of MSDs Eyestrain Low Back Pain Shoulder Pain or Aching Neck Discomfort Pain in Elbows and Forearms Tingling, Numbness and Pain in Hands and Wrists Stiffness Fatigue Stress

Potential Risk Factors : 

Potential Risk Factors Awkward and Sustained Postures Forceful Exertion Repetitive Motion Contact Stress Vibration

Typical Risky Work Behaviors: 

Typical Risky Work Behaviors Prolonged, awkward postures Sitting forward in the chair – no back support Extreme reaching Repetitive motions Feet unsupported and legs dangling Wrists bent Body resting against hard or sharp surface Worksurface too high or too low
