Premium member Presentation Transcript Whole House Water Filtration Systems: Whole House W ater F iltration Systems We have horrible lime and calcium build up – very hard water. We want an entire water softner /filtration system. Bottled water or attachments for the sink is not what I am talking about, it needs to be for laundry, showers, drinking, cooking, etc.Slide 2: What you’re looking for is termed a “whole-house filtration system.” The biggest name in that industry, at least in the U.S., is Culligan (“Hey, Culligan man!”). There is some minor maintenance and replenishment involved with those systems but it’s worth it. It makes a big difference when you have hard water: clothes get cleaner with less soap, plumbing works better, etc.Slide 3: We recently purchase a resale in the West Coast of Florida. We need to install a new filter. We presently have a DE filter system. We are not there during the humid, hot summer months. Any ideas on the best filtration system, sand, de, cartridge, etc. We have a service to clean and add chemicals to the pool. He is an individual, not with a pool company.Slide 4: We previously had a pool up north for 20 years, and have experience with problems encountered. We have tried several methods to have crystal clear water, but it is still green. The filter may be 15 yrs. old. There are not leaks so we surmise it is the filter. Would like to know the best system to replace the filter and easiest maintenance.Slide 5: Algae grows when the chemicals get low or are used up and the waters ph becomes too high. If the pool is left unattended, this can occur within a few weeks or less. Ozone filters are expensive, but the best system for absentee owners. Ozone filters keep the water crystal clear and clean. The water is circulated through an ozone producing apparatus. The Ozone destroys algae sediment, body oils, etc. and then returned to the pool clean and crystal clear.Slide 6: No back flushing or changing of filter elements required. Operates off of electricity and can be put on the same timer the pump is on, so it is virtually maintenance free. You will recoup some of the cost over the life of the filter from not having to purchase chemicals. Get rid of the DE filter, recent studies show DE is more carcinogenic than asbestos.Slide 7: ’m planning a 3 day hike in California which will pass through several miles of grazing land. All available water will be heavily polluted by cattle. I also want a portable filtration/purification system for any SHTF situation, a la, Katrina or earthquake. My cost cap is about $250.00-$300.00 and the system must be very portable. Please be specific about the need for replacement parts in any system.Slide 8: Your choices are simple and $300 will cover you completely. You can either use a pump filter like the Katadyn Hiker http://www.rei.com/product/695233 followed by a chemical treatment like Aqua Mira http://www.backpackinglight.com/cgi-bin/backpackinglight/aquamira_mcnett.html Or use the Aqua Mira by itself.Slide 9: Much of the Sierra wilderness areas are summertime grazing land as well, and yet it isn’t too difficult to climb above the potentially polluted meadow areas where the cows congregate to find cleaner sources of water. I use the Hiker filter and don’t worry about chemical treatment.Slide 10: Furthermore, reverse osmosis cannot remove drug contaminants which are molecularly smaller than water. What is better is a carbon filter which can effectively remove very tiny drug contaminants plus other synthetic chemicals. The trick is to find not only a quality carbon filtration system but also a reputable supplier. This is easier said than done if you don’t know where to look. Doing some research online and conducting your due diligence would help in locating a quality carbon filter. You do not have the permission to view this presentation.
