Consumers of the information PEs consider themselves custodians of the information not users Pace of the implementation Recruited, trained and commissioned in a very short span of time SUCCESS STORY: SUCCESS STORY After breaking with my husband in 1997 after nine years of marriage, I left with three young children aged 1, 2 and 5. I moved to Naivasha to try and cater for my children in the flower farms. After failing to get employment, I found myself in the streets and had to work as a sex worker. I did this in order to feed my children and out of bitterness of having to look after my kids single handedly. I innocently indulged in prostitution, drunkenness and all I could to get food for my children and also hit back at my husband. After seven years of ignorance, I got my first training on reproductive health in June 2004, that’s when I got correct information on HIV/AIDS and condoms. In November 2004, I was trained as a peer educator and started seeing life positively. I started moving out of a life of inferiority and self stigma. Equipped with correct information, I started educating others who were in the same situation as mine.SUCCESS STORY (Cont..): SUCCESS STORY (Cont..) I taught my fellow peer on HIV/AIDS ,safe sex and had to deal with difficult situation with my peers usually referring to them to our Project Manager. After experiencing different medical problems, I felt compelled to go for VCT. I led most of my peers to VCT afterwards most needed counseling. I was trained as a peer counselor and as I counseled, I also counseled myself and can now deal with issues positively, make decisions in life even when faced with difficult situations and also help others make decisions. Most of my peers are HIV positive. Training on HBC for the PLWHA has helped me move steps higher in dealing with self stigma that I have lived with for many years. Interaction with the with pastors and people of all calibers at different forums has also empowered me. My visit and interaction with the HIV positive clients of TASO Jinja (Uganda) left me with another side of positive living. Having gone through this, I wish to stop sex work but circumstances have led me and my peers once in a while to go back to the streets, though this time around, with more information on prevention with positives.
