Political Change and Future Investment:

Political Change and Future Investment Please see attached Wikipedia articles on both Statia (Dutch Caribbean) and its neighbor St. Barts (French Caribbean). As the articles states, Statia is following a similar political model as St. Barts in choosing closer ties with its European parent. These closer ties will acknowledge Statia as a municipality of the Netherlands and therefore allow the residents to vote in Both Dutch and European elections. Its is widely felt that with closer ties the local currency will also eventually change to the Euro much as it has in St. Barts, French Guadalupe and all new member states of the European Union. The attached article on Eastern Europe depicts how real estate prices have gone up 100% since joining the EU. The Currency of Statia is currently the Netherlands Antilles Guilder. This currency is considered a regional currency and has no Real trading value internationally. Some real estate is currently priced in Euros. With the direct Dutch rule a common currency across the board makes the most sense. 1 Euro = $ 1.44 US 1 US = 1.78 ANG Guilders 1 Euro = 2.55 ANG guilders

Slide14:

The Netherlands Antilles is to be disbanded on December 15, 2007. The idea of the Netherlands Antilles as a state never enjoyed full support of all islands. Political relations between islands were often strained. After a long struggle, Aruba seceded from the Netherlands Antilles in 1986, to form its own state within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The desire for secession has also been strong in St. Martin. In 2004 a commission of the governments of the Netherlands Antilles and the Netherlands reported on a future status for the Netherlands Antilles. The commission advised a revision of the Statute of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in order to dissolve the Netherlands Antilles. Two new associated states within the Kingdom of the Netherlands would be formed, Curaçao and St. Martin. Meanwhile, Bonaire, Saba and St. Eustatius (Statia) would become a direct part of the Netherlands as special municipalities (bijzondere gemeente), a form of "public body" (openbaar lichaam) as outlined in article 134 of the Dutch Constitution. These municipalities will resemble ordinary Dutch municipalities in most ways (they will have a mayor, aldermen and a municipal council, for example) and will have to introduce most Dutch law. Residents of these three islands will also be able to vote in Dutch national and European elections. The three islands will also have to involve the Dutch Minister of Foreign Relations before they can make agreements with countries in the region. Originally the term used for Bonaire, Saba and St. Eustatius to describe their expected association with the Netherlands was "Kingdom Islands" (Koninkrijkseilanden). Additionally, the Kingdom government would consist of the government of the Netherlands and one mandated minister per Caribbean country. The special municipalities would be represented in the Kingdom Government by the Netherlands, as they can vote for the Dutch parliament. Netherlands Antilles From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Saint-Barthélemy, officially the Collectivity of Saint-Barthélemy (Collectivité de Saint-Barthélemy), is an overseas collectivity of France that came into being on 22 Feb 2007, encompassing the island of Saint-Barthélemy proper plus several offshore islets. Also known as Saint Barts, Saint Barths, or Saint Barth, the collectivity is one of the four territories among the Leeward Islands in the Caribbean that comprise the French West Indies. Administratively, the whole island of Saint-Barthélemy was a French commune (commune de Saint-Barthélemy) part of Guadeloupe, which is an overseas région and overseas département of France, and therefore part of the European Union. In 2003, the population voted in favour of secession from Guadeloupe in order to form a separate overseas collectivity (COM) of France. On February 7, 2007the French Parliament passed a bill granting COM status to both Saint-Barthélemy and neighbouring Saint Martin. The new status took effect on 22 February 2007, when the law was published in the Official Journal. Saint-Barthélemy From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia French overseas departments and overseas regions The four territories of Martinique, French Guiana, Guadeloupe and Reunion are overseas departments and at the same time mono-departmental overseas regions. According to the EC treaty (article 299 2), overseas departments are outermost regions; provisions of the EC treaty apply there while derogations are allowed. Hence the Euro is legal tender, and these four areas are depicted beneath the map of Europe on Euro banknotes. They are outside the EU VAT area.
