Slide14 : Economic Results for Stakeholders Stakeholders
EFFICIENT MOTORS : EFFICIENT MOTORS Pilot Projects in Chile:
Objective: Replace inefficient motors and measure the savings in mining industry plants => Replicate the results obtained in the Latin American markets encouraging the energy efficiency and, as a side-effect, increase the copper consumption.
Companies committed: Anglo American, BHP, Codelco and Enami.
Other stakeholders: Ministerio de Mineria, PPEE and WEG-Chile.
Estimated average budget by project: $60,000 => 30 motors of 50 HP (ICA funds = $60,000 & Cofunding = $180,000). 71
EFFICIENT MOTORS : EFFICIENT MOTORS Pilot Projects in Mexico:
Objective: Replace inefficient motors and measure the savings in industry plants through FIDE’s energy efficiency campaign.
Stakeholders: FIDE, COMEX, WEG, other industries and motor manufacturers.
Scope: Replace around 80 inefficient motors in 5 industries.
Budget: Motors and replacement financed by FIDE. ICA funds: $10,000 - $20,000. 72
EFFICIENT MOTORS : EFFICIENT MOTORS Pilot Project in Brazil:
Objective: Replace inefficient motors and measure the savings in textile industry plant through PROCEL’s energy efficiency campaign.
Stakeholders: PROCEL, local industry association, textile industry and motor manufacturers.
Scope: Replace around 40 inefficient motors in textile process.
Estimated budget: $60,000. ICA funds: $20,000 & other stakeholders = $40,000. 73
EFFICIENT MOTORS : EFFICIENT MOTORS Expected results:
Prove that the replacement of motors for more efficient units is a business case, and the decision is mainly economical.
Have solid foundations to justify the energy efficiency projects that are looking for funds through the Clean Development Mechanism of – CDM.
Have practical cases of motors’ replacements verified by suitable and internationally recognized organizations.
Support the energy efficiency motor programs by supplying information regarding energy saving that can be easily applied in other industrial and commercial sectors. 74
Slide19 : EFFICIENT TRANSFORMERS Pilot Project in Brazil:
Objective: Replace 9 standard transformers of 45kVA for efficient units in residential, commercial and industry areas to demonstrate the economic feasibility.
Stakeholders: CPFL – distribution utility, University of Itajuba and Romagnole – transformer manufacturer.
Budget: $90,000. ICA funds = $45,000 & Cofunding = $45,000.
Expected Results: Prove that the use of efficient distribution transformer is a business case through a practical pilot case developed by recognized organizations.
Current Status: Project in delay due to utility data availability and profile of network design.
