Why: Why Core Neurology clerkship is a 4 week required rotation for medical students Approximately 16 key topics and at least 4 supplemental topics to cover (epilepsy, stroke, dementia, etc…) Only 6 lectures total when I took over 3 years ago But I love lectures so… crept up to 16+More about Why: More about Why Turns out students don’t all love lectures! A “High Tech” Solution: A “High Tech” Solution Produced narrated PowerPoint presentations or “lecture podcasts” Posted them on BECON Gave students a “suggested study schedule” Held twice weekly “review sessions” BECON demonstration… PowerPoint Narration: PowerPoint Narration Equipment needed: Microphone Sense of humorPodcast Production: Podcast Production Equipment needed: Microphone mp3 player or voice recorder Optional equipment: mp3 file editing programGeneral Pros and Cons: General Pros and Cons Flexible scheduling Saves faculty time Allows review of content Familiar format for students Only works if they use it!
